3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled as "Old Abominable" from bottle at State College BrewExpo. Smelled like a holiday cookie. Ginger, cardammon, and vanilla. Dark amber clear with light head. Smooth medium-heavy body. Very sweet and spicy, with all sorts of winter cookie flavors, with oak and vanilla and nice bittering finish. Light alcohol warming. A nice barley wine.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask at the brewpub. Hazy amber-bronze body with a loose, frothy beige head. Amazing ultra-fresh earthy hop aroma plus notes of brown sugar, maple, molasses, and cherry. Flavor has whiskey qualities with notes of smoke, distinct oak, sourdough yeast, and a mature maltiness. Medium-high bitterness and medium sweet with a long, lingering finish. Nicely warming. Very well conditioned. A distinct barley wine.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask at brewery. Poured a cloudy amber/brown color body with virtually no head. Aroma was dry oak, alcohol, molasses, and candied sugar. Flavor was very mild compared to the regular b.w. Mostly mild whiskey, carmel, and molasses, with a raisin-like finish. Good but almost too mellow.
