On Cask: Color is medium brown, a bit hazy with a thick head. Aroma of grassy hops, caramel and a bit of perfume. Taste is sweet and hoppy, with notes of caramel/toffee, citrus, and piney hops. Body is rather thin and seems to much so for a barleywine. More like an overhopped IPA.

Cheers for the 8.5%. But that’s about it. Everything else was very middle of the road. the flavor and body were very understated. Three words come to mind when I tried this one, weak, meek , and small.

In short: A boring toasted and caramelized amber ale with oxidation. Meh.
How: Bottle 750ml, corked & caged. Age unknown, a few bottles bought not so long ago in Vermont but the taste makes me seriously doubt the freshness, probably an old dusty case found in the Winooski storage room.
The look: Cloudy dark amber body topped by a small beige head.
In long: Nose is basic toasted cereals with hints of cardboard oxidation. Taste is toasted cereals (bread crust), some caramel (less than expected for the style), earthy notes, some cardboard notes, distant notes of hops resin. Plenty of bubbles in a medium body. Not very sweet at all, especially for the style. Not very tasty either. No complexity, straight-up toastiness with a bit of caramel and not much else going on except for the oxidation. Very boring beer. I think one of my favorite beer store sold me an old bottle, but as I often say: fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, fool me 634 times you’re a beer store and you’ll fool me many many more times.

Tap. Pours clear dark amber with just a trace of creamy off-white head around the rim; some lacing. Aroma is mostly muted with some notes of toasted and cereal malts, figs, dates, and faint floral hops. Flavor is sweet malts forward with good supporting dark fruit esters and some floral hops, with a touch of spice and light booze; dry finish. Medium body and low carbonation.

[4743-20120818] Bottle. Toasted heavy fruit malt aroma. Slightly hazy, brown amber body with a quick off-white head. Boozy sweet roasted caramel malt flavour. Full body. Average. (7/3/7-/3/13) 3.3

all malt character/flavor here. Body seemed bit thin. pretty easy-drinking and seems like the barrel treatment might make this one absolutely stellar.

Bottle with Keith, pours a hazy red color with creamy thin off white head, small lacing. Aromas and taste of dark fruit, sugar, very sweet malts, toffee, hops, barley grains, and ash. Very smokey and overly sweet finish. Boozey. Cool label art but the beer was very lacking.

2012-08-18. Hazy dark orange amber body, tiny beige head. 3+ Caramel malt and hops, modest bitterness, light toasty malt particularly in the finish. Aroma has similar hop and malt character, with just a hint of oxidation/age perhaps? Average plus bodied palate. Enjoyable. Bottle, Campground Brewdown 2012

2007 vintage, in a green bottle? Strange. Poured a copper color with a small tanned head. Aroma was subdued toffee and malts. Flavor was mellowed malts, with some caramel notes to it. Very smooth and pretty easy to drink after 5 years.

Shared by Dyan. Thank man, we’re gonna miss you. 2007 vintage. Copper hued with an eighth inch of tan head. Slight haze. Aromas of toffee, a touch of butterscotch, malt. Smells aged. A bit of dampness / rain water. Cool. Taste follows suit. Mellow and easy drinking. Smooth on the palate. Thin to medium bodied. Nice beer, cool to have one five years old. Thanks Dyan.
