3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20Cask at Brazen Head. Hazy golden pour. The nose is loaded with black pepper and a touch of light spicy/wheaty character. The pumpkin manages to come across pretty nicely. There is also a bit of spicy wheat flavour through the middle. Soft spiciness with a lot of black pepper on the finish. Dry finish with a touch of cereally maltiness. I quite like this.

Draft @ BT. Orange pour with some white head. Citrus, pumpkin, and rye notes, but only sensing a tiny hint of pepper flavor or aroma. Standard pumpkin beer.

On draft at Capones. Pours a clear liquid coppery gold with a medium sized off white head. Aroma of rye, pumpkin and nuts. Taste of watery rye, nuts and grains. Where is the pumpkin ?

Tap at BT. Pours a medium golden with a thinning white head. Aroma is very low on peppercorn and pumpkin (maybe real pumpkin is slihgtly there) most vegetal though, doughy, bread and light sweetness with some earth and slight spice. Flavor is toast, caramel, honey, fruity esters, low pumpkin low spice, medium pepper as it warms, flowery and floral as well with a somewhat clean finsih- ok.

Draft at BT. Clear yellow gold color with a small white head. Aroma has some hops, sweetness, faint cooked vegetable character and mild spice. Bland for what it is. Expected more pepper. Flavor is earthy dry bitter and the pepper comes through a bit more especially as it warms.

Draft. Pours and orange body with a white head. Sweet citrus with a light pumpkin seedy note, some light rye and a hint of pepper shaker barely shining through in the finish. Dry seedy bread y tone with a mild pepper and pumpernickel note.

tap @ Blind Tiger Stoudts event. This beer bombed. Orange pour. malty and dry hops. Some nice fruits coming out and smooth and sweet. some astringency. I get some pumpkin in here and maybe the faintest hint of pepper. pretty boring.

Tap at the Ginger Man in NYC. Pours a hazy gold with some modest white head. Nose is all pepper with some hops detectable. Flavor is all peppercorn as well, with a notes of bitter hops and a bit of bumpkin taste. Overall, though, it is the pepper that dominates this brew. I don’t know if I could drink a whole pint of this stuff (and at Ginger Man I didn’t try) but is definitely a departure from most of the beers I drink. Interesting and pretty good.

On cask at Stoudts prior to the Microfest in October... Fairly clear, light golden beer with a nice creamy head... Aroma is quite spicy initially, then runs away... Flavor is much the same with notes of pumpkin and pepper... Knowing it is an english mild, i like it quite a bit, as a pumpkin ale it falls very short... Thin body, very very quaffable...

Cask at The Brazen Head: Hazy golden pour with a white film of head. Subdued spices in the aroma. Quite soapy and buttery as well. Has a macro-like mouthfeel- thin and spritzy. The spices are very faded, with some diacetyl and a soapy character overall. Just off overall and lacking body.
