3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Drake (4803) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - MAY 9, 2009
Draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a light amber color with a large creamy head. Good head retention and phenomenal lacing. Aroma is grassy with toasted malt notes. Taste is toasted malts, honey and strongly bitter hops. Medium bodied.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Butters (2841) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - MAY 8, 2009
Pours a clear effervescent gold with solid bright white head and great sticky lacing. The only perfect 5 appearance pils i’ve come across thus far. Extremely sweet grainy aroma, like a euro strong lager but not quite as sweet. Flavor is very similar, but with a bitter grassiness that pervades. Very weird. Not exactly what I think of for a german pils.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 radagast83 (2202) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - MAY 8, 2009
12 oz bottle. Not a bad pilsener in the least. Pours a very pale yellow color with a small head. Aroma is hops, sweet malts, and a touch of bread. Flavor is bready, hoppy, and tasty. Very enjoyable and easy to drink.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 jeff789 (1206) - West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 20, 2009
Pours a pale yellow with a smaller head than expected... Aroma of grassy noble hops touch of bready malts with minimal sweetness... Flavor follows suit with a bit more floral hops in the taste than in the aroma... Dry crisp easy drinking...
3.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Coltrane (108) - South Carolina, USA - APR 18, 2009
Deliciously drinkable pils. Veers away from other PA Pils by dialing back the hops a bit. Quite smooth, with just a touch of the corn sweetness that is in most pils.
I would be very happy drinking this on a warm day while watching the first day of the NBA playoffs.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 juiceisloose (1045) - Windermere, Florida, USA - APR 15, 2009
Pours a clear golden color with a small off white head that recedes quickly. The aroma is crisp and shows toasted bread, pale malts, and some piney hops as well. The flavor follows this trend with toasted bread and sweet pale malts being balanced by the grassy hop bitterness. Medium bodied, balanced carbonation, and easy drinking with a crisp and dry finish. Nothing crazy, but a nice refreshing Pils that would be great in the hot weather.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 JCB (2918) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - APR 6, 2009
12oz bottle from Sam’s, Durham. Nice straw color with some lively carbonation. Grassy aroma, with peppery hops and just a bit of malts in the nose. Body’s crisp and frothy, even if it thins out too quickly. Playful mouthfeel, so that the hops get somewhat prickly. Dry finish, a bit of hay blended with the pepper. Maybe just a bit too one-dimensional, but this is a rock solid beer to style.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 puboflyons (1111) - Allenstown, New Hampshire, USA - MAR 29, 2009
From a 12 fl. oz. bottle with an expiration date of 9/8/08. I did not sample this until March 09. It pours a pale yellow into the pilsener glass with an abundant supply of foamy, puffy white head. There was a lot of carbonation. The aroma is kind of grainy, grassy, and hoppy. The taste has many of the same elements but more on the bitter side. Despite having this beyod its expiration date, I was satisfied with the result.
