After being very dissapointed in their APA and DIPA (over-rated in my book), I had just about given up on Stoudt’s. But I heard this was good and...I must admit it is. Straw color, crystal clear, fluffy white head that stick around through the whole pint. Earthy/floral german hops in the aroma and flavor. Easy drinking. A great alternative to skunked/abused imports.

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2008 pours a pee colored yellow, with a bright white head. Quite clear, head lingers for a while. smells barnyard, musk, some cheddar cheese. Tastes quite bitter, probably the most bitter pilsner I’ve ever had. lots of hops, and some cheddar. and a distinticve lemon taste. Pretty good.

Yellow gold, nice white head. Grainy, soapy aroma. Very hoppy, and fairly thin bodied. I must confess, i kind of have a weakness for stuff like this. Almost harch, and a very assertive finish. I enjoyed this one.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 DarkElf (2938) - La Jolla, California, USA - JUL 1, 2007
06-Jun-07 (12 oz bottle: Purchased at BevMo in La Jolla, CA) Okay, so I think my earlier review was a tad harsh. Though this beer isn’t my style of pilsener, it’s still quite drinkable in a pinch. It’s a very grassy and zesty pilsener, a grasslike hoppiness that dominates all other aspects of the beer to the point where the grainy maltiness is almost a background flavor. What’s not lost is the moderate sweetness of the malt, which hurts the palate-refreshing factor. The beer also has an odd orange-citrus undertone, a fruitiness that seems out of place for the style. Despite all of this style oddities going on, I can’t say I find this beer unpleasant, though I’d knock off several style points if this were BJCP scoring. Light-medium in body, well-carbonated mouthfeel leads to gassy burps. Spice, composted grass, and citrus in the nose. Medium-straw in color is a bit pale to me, and a slight haze inappropriately fogs the beer. Snow white heading fades to a thin, broken layer atop the beer, but lacing is beautifully ringed. Overall, this is a very flavorful pilsener for sure, and though the flavors seem bizarre for a German-style pilsener, I wouldn’t refuse one if someone handed me a bottle on a warm day.
15-Mar-05 (12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with slob, thanks Bert!) Wow, I gotta say honestly, after pouring this beer into my pint glass, this looks like Budweiser. Medium yellow in color, perfectly clear, topped by a medium-size white head, and with an army of large carbonation bubbles quickly rising through the beer, this looks like fizzy, yellow beer. Yup, if I didn’t have the bottle in front of me, I would think this was a mass-produced American pale lager. I’m not terribly excited to taste the beer, but you never know, so here goes. Well, it definitely tastes better than Budweiser, that’s for sure, and it shows much more character and quality, but it’s not my style of pilsener. The nose is very grassy, with not much else showing through. Flavor wise, it’s a very dry, spicy pilsener, minimally sweet, very light on the malt, dominated by the spicy, moderately bitter hops. Clean, dry, crisp palate, light in body, well-carbonated, and this just doesn’t have a nice mouthfeel. The head eventually settles to a sheen, but there is plenty of delicate lacing on the glass. I don’t care if Stoudt’s is a well-respected brewer of fine beers, I refuse to inflate my scores because of the brewer. I don’t like this beer.

Pours a crystal clear pale yellow color with a medium pearly white head. Smells grainy with some light hops and citrus. Nothing exciting here as expected. The taste is very mild, alot of bitterness, some citrus, some grain. The finish and eaftertaste was too bitter for me to enjoy it. Maybe its just because pilseners are so boring i cant really enjoy them much. It would be better if I had just run a marathon. I guess not bad for its style.

Very light straw color with a thin layer of foam on top. Classic clean Pils aroma, light grassy Saaz aroma, but it has a metallic quality. Real nice crisp taste, clean finish. A nice refreshing brew. The metallic smell is real mild and isn’t real distracting, so this doesn’t detract from the beer.
