Beerlando (1271), Orlando, Florida, USA May 9, 2008 Pours a clear, yellowish golden color. A smooth, creamy white head leaves lacy bands of foam on the glass. The nose is fresh and crisp, with lightly sweet, buttery pale malts, toasted bread, and a nice dose of grassy hops. The flavor continues this theme, with the sweet pale malts being balanced perfectly by the fresh, crisp, grassy hop bite. Medium bodied, smooth, finishing semi-dry and crisp. Nothing crazy going on here, just an easy drinking and refreshing Pils. Very nice summertime beer.
fluffy (61), Alabama, USA Sep 6, 2008 cloudy gold poured with an effervescent head. scent is quite hoppy. starts off grassy and citrusy, ends rather bitter the warmer it gets. not bad, yup. its a pilsner. nqualls (205), Tennessee, USA Aug 24, 2008 12 ozer poured into a pilsener glass. Poured a bright yellow color with a huge bubbly head. Aroma was of grass and bread with a little floral hop hint. Flavor was dry and grassy. Light-medium body with excellent carbonation. djaquay (8), Ephrata, Pennsylvania, USA does not count Aug 23, 2008 Poured up nice with a white head and light gold color. Slightly sticky mouth, medium lace, especially toward the bottom of the glass. Interesting taste; started off with a nice citrus, but then the bitter comes in, and stays around quite a long while. Not quite my style, I’m afraid. Juelze (677), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 22, 2008 Trade from Ross, thanks man! I’ve been waiting to taste this one ever since I read Matta’s encounter with the Czech dude who cracked one open in a grocery store. Anyway, let’s get to the beer. Pours out a beautiful clear yellow color with big frothy white head that fades quickly leaving nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is grassy and sharp, with notes of floral hops and light bread notes. Taste is grassy and citrus hops with a dry malt backbone. Carbonation is moderate and the finish is dry and clean. Overall, it’s good stuff, but I’ve been spoiled with fresh New Glarus Edel Pils. otakuden (85), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Aug 20, 2008 My very first pilsner was, of course, Pilsner Urquell. It was at a bar in a hotel in Orlando where my bud Craig and I met up for dinner and a drink. I am third generation Czech; my dad’s dad moved to Vero Beach, FL and started our family business and we have been living here since. I have great pride in my roots and heritage and where I grew up and where I also came from so I was very excited to drink the original pilsner that started it all. Since then, I am always on the look-out for a good, traditionally inspired pilsner.
Stoudt’s Pils pours a beautiful golden grass, slightly cloudy, and with a good finger-sized head of fluffy foam. The head recedes into a thin layer of white on top with lacings on the sides as I drink. Grass, earth, and lemon in the nose. Grass and bitter lemon rind in the palate. The earthen grassiness fills the body while the bitter lemon bites at the top of my tongue, making you notice the different flavor profiles of this very exquisite German Style Pilsner. A nicely full, smooth body for a pilsner, the hop oils lightly coats my mouth while hints of floral mingle with the grassy palate. For a full body, Stoudt’s Pils has a bright, crisp, and clear presence which makes a very refreshing and easily quaffable impression. As she warms and the level in my glass diminishes (much to my delight and despair) the grass, floral presence, and oily bitter lemony hop presence melds into one perfectly balance palate of Pilsner perfection.
Overall, a very full, smooth, earthy grassy lemon hoppy pilsner from Stoudt’s that is to this date, probably the best pilsner I have drank. Granted, I haven’t tasted many yet, but Stoudt’s Pils is up there at the top of my beer bliss list.
