mattd017 (51), Jacksonville, Florida, USA Sep 2, 2006 Pours a red, coppery brown with a medium head that leaves a pretty constant thin head. Has almost no scent, kind of disappointing. Slightly bitter, fairly malty. Nice mouthfeel, thick with light carbonation. Not a typical ESB, not a bad brew, very tasty. Good, but there are better brews from Stoudts Saarlander (1577), Saarlouis, Germany Aug 28, 2006 Copper pour, alot of maltiness to this one, sticky sweet on the lips. Some hops on the aftertaste, ok brew, not great though. Trooper11 (464), Suffolk, Virginia, USA Aug 14, 2006 Pours a reddish-copper with a medium foamy, off-white head. Sweet floral aroma, citrusy. Taste is a little watery at the begining, followed with a mellow bitterness, some hops, with a hint of grapefruit, and a light corn syrup. Finishes clean. Very light bodied. Not what I expected for an ESB. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Aug 13, 2006 sampled at Andy’s Corner Bar on tap. Poured a deep amber with a medium off white head. Aroma is malty with some floral hops. Taste is sweet malt with some bittering hops up front and a small amount of hops in the finish. well balanced. donrajin (233), Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, USA Aug 7, 2006 This is a pretty good ESB. I have no real complaints other than I feel most classic ESB’s should have a little more hop flavor. Not really a requirement for the style, but I think it tastes better. brewrater (91), akron, Ohio, USA Aug 4, 2006 Malt aroma. Some bite. Major fault in the metallic finish. Bad bottle? Not seeing this complaint in others’ ratings. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Jul 28, 2006 Not my favorite ESB. Aroma is a little lager-like, vegetably, though also minty and earthy/mushrooms. Appearance is a typical cloudy copper with a small white head. Taste is minty and floral, with mushrooms and licorice. It is a little harsh in the mouth for the style. lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA Jul 26, 2006 Pours a deep clear amber with a thin tan head. No lacing to speak of. Smells of biscuity malt, herbal hops and some faint caramel aromas.
A stab at a traditional English style ESB. Tea-like herbal hops. Small hop bite. Fruity and biscuity malt. Medium bodied. Hoppy finish and aftertaste. Hops linger on a low level. Good stuff. Tasty and easy to drink. Nice session beer.
