eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 7, 2006 Another average beer that didn’t stand out. This had a somewhat funky aroma, maybe a little grassy and oddly sweet. The flavor was malty, some caramel, but definite grassy hops in the flavor profile. Better as it warmed, but nothing to write home about. Base was somewhat sweet and moderately bodied (somewhat creamy) for an esb. HopBackDoc (393), Hatboro, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 6, 2006 Nicely balanced ESB with a red hue and mild foam head. Easy drinking beer, not to bitter, but still delivers a bite. Nice beer to have if you plan on having a few. nick76 (2636), Tampa, Florida, USA May 29, 2006 The aroma has cream soda, caramel, and herbal hops. The appearance is red - brown with a medium head. The flavor is sweet; it has caramel with some bitterness. The palate is ok. This is likeable and easy to drink but not Extra Special. lamas (709), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA May 27, 2006 Updated: May 28, 2006Bottle. Best before: 01/13/05. A cloudy amber pour with a small light-tan head. A rich aroma of caramel, milk chocolate and vanilla cream. Some licorice and soy sauce too. Pretty thin and watery. Starts with some toffee and caramel and finishes with some crisp, biscuity hops. Pretty solid. Can that date on the bottle be right? yayforbeer (641), Orange Park, Florida, USA May 23, 2006 12 oz. bottle. Dark amber beer with a nice white head. Aroma is mildly hoppy and floral. Flavor is typical for an ESB with the English character of the Marris Otter malt and hops coming through. A nice balance of hops gives it a crispness and long, mildly bitter finish. Palate is a little thin as a result of the crispness, but it all comes off as a flavorful, refreshing and very drinkable brew. Not spectacular but damn good. $8.99 for a six pack at Broudy’s, Jacksonville, FL. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA May 20, 2006 Clear copper color with medium tan head. Aroma is a combo of malt and hops. A nice flavor of grain (biscuit or lightly roasted) Marris Otter malt and a fair amount of hop bitterness. Hits the ESB style quite well with some nice added body and malt flavors. Works well. billk (300), Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, USA May 9, 2006 Tap @ Stoudt’s. Beautiful red/copper color w beige head that could have lasted longer. Aroma of rich malt & spicy hops. Flavor is somewhat rich malt, only slightly sweet, & the spicy hops. Nice balance, quite clean, very refreshing. Just into medium bodied. There was a noticable thinness on the palate but it was easily overlooked in this very pleasant to drink ESB. I could have drank this till I couldn’t move, it was quite good. isamublue (21), Huntington Beach, California, USA Apr 30, 2006 Updated: May 21, 2006Pours a medium amber color with a foamy off white head. Fruity and bitter aroma. Not as hoppy as I anticipated. Very goodl balance between bitter and fruit. Very good beer. Much better than other esb’s that are considered to be better.
