bigrond (1043), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 20, 2005 smooth easy drinking. But the name has got to go. But everthing else from stoudts is very good. rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Oct 15, 2005 Plummy, fruity with sweet medium toast malt and crisp hops in the nose. Body is clear ruby with a thinnish off white head. Ruch malt, nice dark fruitiness, brown sugar/maple. Sweet but still crisp finish. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Oct 14, 2005 (12 oz bottle: Chevy Chase Liquors in Washington, DC) I’ve had this beer in the past and thought it wasn’t very flavorful, so I let this one sit awhile. Looks like the aging has paid off, as the flavor component shows a bit more boldness this time around. It’s toasty and malty, fairly sweet and unfortunately a bit sugary, with a moderate bitterness for decent balance. A slight floral nature is a bit of a distraction, but overall, this is a pretty tasty beer. A toasty, slightly earthy maltiness dominates the nose, but there’s a hint a floral aroma in the background. Medium bodied, nice carbonation, and a round, long-lasting mouthfeel. The deep amber body shows excellent clarity and is capped by a pretty typical head: off-white in color, half an inch in height, and settling to a ring. Lacing is pretty much non-existent. Not too shabby, this aged ESB. Tmoney99 (4655), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Oct 14, 2005 Bottle. Dark clear amber with a average white head. Heavy hop and pine aroma. Medium body. Light bitter sweet flavor with a small bitter finish of short duration. TomDecapolis (3128), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 3, 2005 Had on tap at the brewery. Pours a translucent red amber with a great tan lacing head. Aroma is caramel, roasted malts with some other sweatness. Flavor is some dry hops and sweat malts. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 2, 2005 Serviceable bitter, very well malted. Malts and hop in aroma. Amber colour. Smooth, clean finish, with sugary aftertaste A good second drink after my porter, though others may want more strongly bitter brew. Despite mediocre labels, this is a good brewery. Nel (180), Virginia, USA Sep 18, 2005 not a bad bitter at all. Malt and hops are prevalent in the nose and in the taste. The bitter turns into sweet in the finish. pretty good! aracauna (2357), Georgia, USA Sep 17, 2005 Not a bad esb. Clear mahogany with a pretty good head. Wood-malty aroma with a backup of hops. Bit of caramel. Full malty body with moderate sweetness. Nice balancing bitterness from the hops. Pretty good football beer.
