| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | May 31, 2004 This bottled brew poured a medium sized head of fine to medium sized mostly lasting off-white colored bubbles that left behind a minimal lacing. The body was a carbonated transparent brown color. The aroma was malty must and dough like. The mouth feel was smooth and thin with a mild bitterness initially then a certain acidness crept into the finish to ruin it. The flavor contained notes of malt mild caramel and a touch of vinegar. In the end, I found myself not caring much for this one. jeffc666 (1889), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | May 26, 2004 Copper body, frothy light tan head. Earty malty aroma, not much hops detected. Mildly bitter with the malt dominating things. The hops are very subdued. The body is too watery for my liking. The finish is a tad sour with some caramel coming through late in the game. Not my favorite by a long way. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 14, 2004 12 oz bottle. Light ruddy tinge to the medium orange, slightly cloudy body...just a hint of head, fully lasting. Apple/spice aroma with a hint of pine. Very smooth and dry, mostly herbal, piney flavors. Fine, but nothing special. jimhilt (1674), Bow, New Hampshire, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 5, 2004 Tap: A very complex ESB. Pours coppery in color, with a good head. Tastes very malty with a good bitterness. This one has some IPA qualities, and also some marzen qualities. A very unique style. warrior (213), Mt. Wolf, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 19, 2004 Crystal malt aroma with some hops at the end. Clear amber color, great head retention and lacing. Crystal malt flavor dominates the hop bitterness and flavor a little too much. I would like to see more hop flavor to balance the crytsal malt. Not the best ESB I've had but still fairly good. I have had this in the bottle before and it was more balanced. MaiBockAddict (1499), Good Beer Bar Deprived, New Jersey, USA

Flavor is malty, backed up with a good dose of noble hops and a touch of licorice. Very appropriate for style and very enjoyable.
