Initial aroma was hoppy citrus (grapefruit) and floral. However, this dissipated and becme muted as the beer warmed. Flavor was likewise the hoppy floral, with a nice bitter palate, true to form. The dry, bitter finish was the best part of this beer for me. richlikebeer (832), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 19, 2005 Very nice, almost red (guess thats why they call it scarlet lady ale) with plenty of foamy head, faded down to cover the top throughout. Nose is very malty, I didn’t pick up on any of the other tones they advertised. Taste is very smooth, the bitterness only really takes over at the end, and the body is pretty much down the middle. Overall, I think it’s a nice beer, but I don’t think i could make a whole session out of the bitterness. Cybercat (828), Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 15, 2007 Aroma is not strong but pleasantly malty. From the bottle it pours a lovely dark brownish gold with a nice thick head. Flavor is richly malty and has a smoky undertone. Smooth and easy to drink, it has no bitterness in the flavor or aftertaste. A pleasantly drinkable ale. keepersj12 (825), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA

Clear amber golden with small frothy white head. Floral and grassy hop notes in flavor with moderate bitterness. Grainy toasty biscuit like malt notes and light fruitiness. Light body and mouthfeel. Clean dry bitter finish. cb (809), Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Feb 22, 2009 12 oz bottle-mahogany red color w/almost no head. Burnt malt aroma. Flavors of burnt malt & hops, really way too much hop for this style. Maybe some weak caramel flavor. No real trace of malt or sweetness to it. Seemed out of balance to me, not real crazy @ this one. One of the poorer efforts I’ve seen from this brewer. changeup45 (807), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Apr 12, 2008 This seems like a pretty weak ESB. Color is light brown, maybe some orange in there. Not much head or lacing. Sweet fruity aroma such as oranges or mango. This is an easy drinking beer with pretty good balance but it just seems a little bland. There’s a fruity malt note with some faint bitter hops and a pretty clean finish but the whole thing just seems watered down a little. Overall it’s OK but it’s not a very good ESB.
