Tastes very malty with a good bitterness. This one has some IPA qualities, and also some marzen qualities. A very unique style. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 14, 2004 12 oz bottle. Light ruddy tinge to the medium orange, slightly cloudy body...just a hint of head, fully lasting. Apple/spice aroma with a hint of pine. Very smooth and dry, mostly herbal, piney flavors. Fine, but nothing special. bhensonb (4404), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Feb 4, 2008 Aromas of roasted caramel and floral hop. Slightly hazy amber color with a decent beige head. Medium body with mild carbonation. Roasted caramel flavor decently balanced by floral bitter. The finish is pretty much the same. Very English, if perhaps a bit heavy on hop for the friends across the pond. heemer77 (4313), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 11, 2008 Deep copper body with a light khaki head. The aroma is lightly malty with some toffee. There is also some old library book character. The taste has some light toffee and iced tea. There is also some raisin that comes out after drinking. A nice ESB. BBB63 (4283), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 7, 2004 Bottle via DocLock: Reddish amber hue with fading small head and some lace. The aroma has notes of sweet and biscuity malts, aromatic and bitter hops, chalky and dusty esters, slight apple nose. The taste starts with a smooth bitter note with an balance of malt. Detected some fruit and bready undertones as well. Finish has that "hard water" quality to it with a weaker bitter profile than expected. The feel is too watery for my taste but does provide the basic elements of an ESB. A quaffable brew with needs more depth of palate to compete with the best of the genre. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | May 1, 2009 Bottled, thanks to Blake for sharing! Poured hazy medium orange with a subtle dusting of off-white head. The aroma picked up earthy and floral hoppage over lightly toasted and caramel maltage.. sweet overall and well-balanced. The flavor picked up caramel and bready sweetness with floral and earthy bitterness.. finished sweet with more caramel and a touch of brown sugar. Light-medium bodied with drier bitterness and tasty, toasty maltage on the palate.. fairly well-balanced and very drinkable. goldtwins (4086), Nesconset, New York, USA
