This authentic English-style ale is brewed from the finest imported Marris Otter malt for arich, reddish-copper color and full, malty palate. the generous use of English hops balances the regal, sweet maltiness and imparts a softly perfumed aroma.

As far as English Style Bitter’s go, this beer isn’t bad. It is just sweet enough and has just a tad of hop bitter to it; so basically it is easily quaffable and would be welcome any time I need a refreshing beer. There is no unpleasant aftertaste. There is nothing wrong with this beer, it is a decent ESB. But of course if I wanted to drink an interesting beer this would not be my choice as it just doesn’t hold up to the stronger styles.

More sour than bitter. Pales in comparison to today’s hoppy offerings. Not for me.

This wasn’t one of my favorites from Stoudts, but I am not the biggest fans of extra bitters. The hops are the main theme going on, with of course, an extra bitter aftertaste. It is still a smooth, crisp beer....on the lighter side overall. Dark orange-light copper color. Better than average, but pretty much an across the board 7.

Pours a perfectly clear pale copper, the color of cider. Super-effervescent, tons of bubbles. Big toasted beige, foamy head. Smells of grass, oranges, caramel malts, toffee--not your regular ESB, but not bad. The taste, however, didn’t really follow the smell. It began with a roasted malt character, followed by a light grassiness and citrus, like orange peel. Like eating a handful of earth: the grassiness mixed with the earthiness of the malt. Bitterness hits in the back, after the swallow, but is so light as to hardly be noticeable. Somewhat sweet, actually. Where it really loses it for me is the mouthfeel: light and watery. Light carbonation is nice, but the drink is so insubstantial. I like the balance of roasted malts and hops, though.

Pours a ruby color with a lacy white head. Notes of jam, copper, biscuits, burnt malt, and brown sugar. Grainy mouthfeel.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured cloudy, copper/reddish in color; beige small head. Aroma is mostly malts, caramel and some floral/grass notes. Taste is also sweet, malty, some grain notes, and some citrus notes... Drinkable and quite enjoyable; very decent beer.
