Commercial Description:
Stoudt's Scotch-style ale features a deep, burnished-copper color, sweet and very full-bodied palate, and well-defined characteristics of roasted and peat-smoked malt. This beer is brewed from the finest European ingredients and uses one of the few ale yeasts that ferments cool (55°) and is cold-conditioned or lagered for six weeks prior to bottle-conditioning.

Bottled. A hazy dark red beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has strong notes of alcohol, over ripe fruits, prunes, and nuts. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, over ripe fruits, coffee, caramel, and berries. The body is light. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of Miver. Pours a clear orangey brown with a beige head. Lovely oxidized wooden Bourbon aroma. Solid body, burned caramel and roasted malts. Sweet Bourbon accents. No bitterness, but some alcohol. Lovely. 130909

750mL bottle from the ’07/’08-ish? release. Poured deeper amber with a short cap of beige head.. quite a lovely color. The aroma was sweet with smoked peat and caramel specked with mild leafy accents.. brighter earth and faint citrus notes hit the back of the nose.. soft, somewhat simple, and entirely enjoyable. The flavor was along those same lines with caramel, cocoa, and biscuity malts at the core supporting light earthy bitterness, somewhat sour peaty smoke, and herbs.. finished with a long smoky caramel impression. Medium-bodied with adequate carbonation on the palate.. sweet overall, but it dried out nicely on the back-end.. well-balanced and very, very easy to drink!

Draught. Pours a cloudy dark brown, fluffy off-white head. Nose is an odd, medicinal peat note, sweet roasty malt, bits of cocoa. Taste is smokey, with the peat taking on an almost heathery note, almost medicinal, up front, with lots of sweet roasty malt and a bit of cocoa underneath. The weird, medicinal, almost minerally quality of the heather is almost distracting, and never really goes away. Mouthfeel is med-full, light carbonation.
