650 ml bottle thanks to someone at the tasting 1/23/10 at Eric’s. Pours a dark brown color with a medium white head. A rich malty scotch ale nose, earthy and light chocolates. A smooth flavor; a well-done scotch ale, smooth rich malts, earthy, lots of sweet chocolates and fruity musty malts. Very easygoing and tasty. Nice.

750mL bottle from the ’07/’08-ish? release. Poured deeper amber with a short cap of beige head.. quite a lovely color. The aroma was sweet with smoked peat and caramel specked with mild leafy accents.. brighter earth and faint citrus notes hit the back of the nose.. soft, somewhat simple, and entirely enjoyable. The flavor was along those same lines with caramel, cocoa, and biscuity malts at the core supporting light earthy bitterness, somewhat sour peaty smoke, and herbs.. finished with a long smoky caramel impression. Medium-bodied with adequate carbonation on the palate.. sweet overall, but it dried out nicely on the back-end.. well-balanced and very, very easy to drink!
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 JohnQPublic (387) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - NOV 1, 2008
Draught. Pours a cloudy dark brown, fluffy off-white head. Nose is an odd, medicinal peat note, sweet roasty malt, bits of cocoa. Taste is smokey, with the peat taking on an almost heathery note, almost medicinal, up front, with lots of sweet roasty malt and a bit of cocoa underneath. The weird, medicinal, almost minerally quality of the heather is almost distracting, and never really goes away. Mouthfeel is med-full, light carbonation.

Draft at BT. Pours a dark redish brune body with very minute tan head. Sweet vinous with minerals. Light toasted malts. A light smoky character, with a light woodiness and peat as well. Chewy dark fruit and tobacco. A dry woody finish.
