Commercial Description:
Stoudt's Scotch-style ale features a deep, burnished-copper color, sweet and very full-bodied palate, and well-defined characteristics of roasted and peat-smoked malt. This beer is brewed from the finest European ingredients and uses one of the few ale yeasts that ferments cool (55°) and is cold-conditioned or lagered for six weeks prior to bottle-conditioning.

Courtesy PhillyBeer2112. Pours a reddsih brown color with a small, cream colored head. The aroma shows notes of dark fruit, caramel malts, chocolate, a hint of smoked peat. It has that typical scotch ale smell. The flavor follows suit with the caramel and chocolate kciking things off with some dark fruit on there also. There wasn’t much with hops at all. Medium bodied and smooth with a just a bit of carbonation leading to a sweet finish. The flavor seemed pretty subdued probably due to the age on this one. Still a pretty solid scotch ale though.

Courtesy PhillyBeer2112. A lightly hazy, reddish amber body is crowned by a small, foamy, cream colored head. Sticky spots of lacing cling to the glass. Aromatics include peat smoked caramel malts, chocolate, and hints of molasses and soy sauce. The same smoky caramel kicks off the flavor, with chocolate emerging as a more prominent force. Very little going on in terms of hop bitterness, though the peaty smoke lends a touch of earthiness and balance. Medium bodied and lightly carbonated, I get the feeling that this one is just a touch long in the tooth, yet still quite enjoyable. Overall, a pretty solid Scotch ale.

Bottle @ ORL throwdown, courtesy of PhillyBeer2112. Maroon/brown body with a small tan head, fades to a ring around the glass pretty fast. Aroma of smoke and dark rich malts. Very sweet and malty plus touches of smoke in flavor as well. Med body with subdued carb.

Courtesy PhillBeer2112. Pours a dark maroon, with a small off white head. Smells of sweet dark fruits, and some caramel malt. Smells like most typical scotch ales Ive had. The flavor was very sweet, very fruity. The taste seemingly has deadened a bit, due to age obviously, but still was quite good and decently complex. Very fruity all the way around and the alcohol was masked nicely, giving it a smooth texture.

Purple in color with a staying head. Nice sharp malt nose. Very thick mouthfeel but not a ton of depth in flavor. Sorta grapey.
