Commercial Description:
This medium bodied copper colored strong lager is in a class all by itself. First released in celebration of our 20th Anniversary. Ed Stoudt calls this beer an "American-style Doppelbock" He believes it to be the first high gravity lager brewed with German Malts and American Hops. This brew has a delicate malty palate up front, which is abruptly overshadowed by the dominating ho presence that can be attributed to 1.5lbs/bbl of hops that were added to this brew for aroma & flavor. A hop lover's beer indeed.

Yeast: Bottom Fermenting Lager
Bittering hops: Summit
Aroma hops: Amarillo
Malts: Two-row,Vienna & Others

12oz Bottle. Beautiful deep amber color with sticky tan foam. Nice floral aroma with lots of sticky maltiness there also. Very rich malt flavor with good bittering and hop flavor. The worlds first India Pale Bock?

Wow, what a nice hoppy nose on this one here. The palate is hoppy, but not overly bitter. The flavor and aroma hops are superb . Stoudt’s has created an excellent India Pale Lager. I really dig the beers dryness and drinkability.

On draft @ HDG. Deep clear copper in color with a nice off white head. Piney grapefuity hoppy aroma. Malty and hoppy flavor. Caramel toffee notes. Finish is bitter. Sweet tasting. Medium bodied. The hops are unusual for the style but I liked it. Nice. Drinkable.

First of all, great "joe camel meets miami vice" mascot on the label - clear copper beer - a but light for the style - a nice frothy head on it - amarillos are quite strong in the aroma, riding atop cinnamon, brown sugar, toffee - quite hoppy up front, but this bitterness gradually fades, allowing some grainy/bready flavors to develop, sweet caramel, apparent vienna malt, a mild nuttiness - hops become strong again in the finish - an interesting and tasty take on a doppel.

Pretty damned good . Poured a nice amber-red hue with a thin off-white head, which faded fast. Aroma was a mix of pine like hops and caramel notes. a little IPAish. Flavor seemed to have a little more of a honey note too it. It was really sweet at times, but the hops never faded away. Interesting.

Wow, awesome, awesome beer. Hoppy enough to be an IPA, but much deeper amber color and malt backbone. Just tremendous.

Pours a translucent copper/red/amber with a large foamy/creamy lacing head. Aroma of tangerines, floral, pine, caramel, some grainy maltiness and hints of dark fruits. Flavor of pine, grapefruit and lots of hop bitterness. Very hoppy Doppelbock bordering on an American Amber or IPA. Hidden under all the hop flavor and bitterness is some caramel, bready, nuts, earthy with sweet grainy maltiness.

12oz Bottle. Nice fresh hop nose. Juicy and vibrant in the American-vein. Pine-cone bristling. Pours a clear copper-brown, with an easy lacing of khaki. Flavor works off the hop tones, in a more bitter, yet still flavor forward manner. As the bold, glowing hop oil show fades, a residue of deeper, chewier malt caramels is left behind for nice balanced, twinged with a house yeast and a bit of alcohol complexity. This is a very nice beer! I like the temporal play of hops and malt, the balanced, and the finish. This is a well thought-out and executed beer. One of the better exploratory American versions of a classic German style that actually worked out for me.
