Commercial Description:
A strong, full-bodied Belgian Abbey-style beer. The traditional yeast strain that is used imparts a rich array of spicy and fruit-like flavors. The prominent clove and melon notes are complemented by the sweetness and alcoholic warmth of the beer. The appealing color of glowing orange makes this brew irresistible.

Pours a slightly hazy golden orange color with some chunky floaties. Produces a thin and quickly vanishing head. No lacing at all. Pleasant, fruity aromas of apricot, pear, green apple are dominant with some notes of spices, malts and banana lingering in the background. Mouthfeel was disappointingly flat and sticky for a Belgian-style Triple. One would expect a much more lively level of carbonation for this style. Flavor was quite authentic to style revealing sweet, ripe fruit, caramel malt, spices and a touch of pepper, lemon juice and a restrained hop bitterness which kept the sugary sweetness in check. An admirable attempt at the style, but if I’m in the mood for a Triple I’d prefer the real deal from Belgium over this anyday.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy orangish amber color iwth a minimal white head. Aroma is fruity and blunt. Tastes tangy with a bit of bitterness. Not bad, but not an everyday beer.

2003 750 ml. Orange with apricot highlights, this pours with a small head. The sticky over ripe sweet fruit taste abounds with apple, peach and grape. The alcohol blends nicely with sweet malts and is just lightly dry and creamy.

Bottle. Ruddy, reddish-brown color with a dense, creamy head. Caramel, malty, fruity aroma: apples, pear, flowers, nectar - nicely developed nose, almost cloyingly sweet. Flavor is similar... too sweet for me. Not near the complexity of the aroma - echoes of pear and nectar though. Yeasty and toasty. Slightly astringent finish. Decent spiyness. The flavors of alcohol don’t mesh very well with the beer as a whole and make it somewhat harsh. Overall, not a bad beer, but nothing exciting.

got this in a trade a while ago and I don’t know who sent it but thanks who ever you are. poured a cloudy tan orange with a small light tan head that didn’t last long. aroma sour fruits, spicy, yeast. flavor cantaloupe, which I do not like and won’t eat it but I will make the sacrifice and not include that in my rating and finish this beer, got some orange and a nice sweetness which I am glad of because of the aroma being so sour, and a nice alcohol burn, yeast, and some nice spices got the glove and a hint if lemon. not to bad

Bottle. Pours a hazy dark orange with an average size diminishing white head. Aroma’s sweet and fruity with yeast, alcohol and a hint of vanilla and spices. Flavour starts quite boozy and dry then follows with sweet malt, doughy yeast, fruit and spices. Medium bodied, sticky mouthfeel. Good enough but even for a Tripel the alcohol could be better hidden to make it more pleasurable to drink.

12/05/2006: Tonight I’m doing a comparison tasting between Stoudt’s Triple and Victory Golden Monkey Tripel Ale. First up is the Stoudt’s... Stoudt’s Triple pours a muddy amber orange color with a small bubbly orange-light brown colored head that disappears quickly to leave a thin veil. The clarity actually becomes nearly clear if the beer sets a little while. The visible level of carbonation is mild to medium. The aroma is sweet, malty, fruity, and exposes the aged qualities of this 1.25 year old brew. The flavor is rich and sweet with lots of nicely aged fruit flavors. I think that candied pear and apple is a good way to describe the "fruity" quality of this beer. There is some sweet, warming alcohol that comes out in the long, malty finish, but overall the alcohol is well hidden. This beer is thick without being too viscous and coats the mouth nicely. Overall I think that this is a solid Triple from a respected American micro brewery. I enjoyed the aroma and flavor of this slightly aged beer. Now let’s see how it compares to the Victory Golden Monkey Tripel... 12 oz bottle (on 8/24/05), $2.33 from Belmont Party Supply.
