mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 13, 2006 Bottle. Pours an dark amber-orange body with a medium-sized medium white head. The aroma consists of oranges, lemon, spicy cereal hops, and some sweet pears. Thick alcoholic palate with an average flavour profile- quite bready and very sweet but not really over the top. Not all that complex in the end. illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Nov 2, 2006 Updated: Aug 14, 2007Draft at Sharp Edge in Pittsburgh. Pours hazy golden orange with a diminishing white head. Nice aroma of sweet apples, pear, yeast. A tad thin on the mouthfeel. Flavor is sweet, doughy, with some fruitiness and some alcohol notes. Chalky and strong alcohol finish. Lacks the malt backbone and texture of the good imported Tripels. But not offensive either. beastiefan2k (1590), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA Oct 26, 2006 765ml bottle vintage date 7/30/03. Poured into small goblet glass. Firstly, I am not sure how similar these old bottles recipes are to the new 12 oz bottles. Secondly, I love the extra 15 ozs and the old labels are so much better than the new 12oz labels. But I guess change happens and those who dont like it get stuck in the past. So first thing I could say is that its a dark tripel. This is not unheard of but interesting. Again, I have never had the 12 oz bottle but this is a dark amber color. Even though popping the cap a lot of guess seemed to erupt there is no head and just some minimal lacing. Aroma is strong, high on maltiness. Actually, I would never even guess this is a Tripel. The age is definitely evidenced in the aroma. There is a pruney-raisony-alchy aroma reminiscent of aged barleywines in the aroma. It is definitely spicey and fruity in the prune aspect. Taste has got some melon like characters in it but mainly again a pruney-cookiedough flavor emerges from the malt. Again, the age has turned this into an unrecognizable tripel. I feel some oxidization or what just seems as a degradation of the beer. But still very drinkable and I’d say still cellarable for a few more years. It has a yeasty feel throughout. Leaves a sweet spiced aftertaste. The carbonation is low and bitterness is low. sheatripper (863), Brooklyn, New York, USA Oct 26, 2006 Bottle. Amber color with a moderate head, diminishing fairly quickly. Light fruity aroma of pear/apple. Cookie malt flavor with some citrus, spice and slightly cheesy yeast and warming alcohol. Would prefer if the alcohol was smoothed over a little more on the palate, but overall a fairly good domestic tripel. Jwasciuk (194), Lowell, Michigan, USA Oct 25, 2006 pours cloudy orange with an off white fizzy head, medium sized particles. Aroma is lightly malted heavy sweet yeast aroma bannans and bublegum. Flavor is moderatly sweet and bitter (nice balance) finishes bannana. Medium bodies watery and creamy softly carbonated, Very nice and accurate to style. ToadMan (554), Washington, Washington DC, USA Oct 19, 2006 Rusty orange color with a lot of yeast. Aroma is strong bubblegum. Fairly sweet with tones of grapefuit and vanilla. xav33 (313), Midland, MI, Michigan, USA Oct 10, 2006 Stoudts Triple
12 oz bottle
Recent bottling, liberated 10/06
Medium pour in a tulip glass
Poured a murky bright copper orange with a smowhat lasting fizzy white average-sized head with no lacing.
Smelt of moderate all-spice, cantalope, sweet ripe bananas, and some doughiness. Some very faint alcoholic burn. Taste was quick upfront sweet banana bread caught up with some light bitter spice followed by a heavy bitter moldy horseblanket bitter finish and a subtle pleasant flowery hop kick that appears on the average length finish. Mouthfeel was creamy on a dry finish, medium bodied, fizzy with moderate astringency on the finish and a trace of alcoholic warmth.
Overall, the aroma is pleasant, but the flavor on the follow through is too harsh on the tastebuds and the palate. webjedi (249), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA Oct 1, 2006 Extremely spicy Belgian style. Poured on tap, it’s much mor emilder than in a bottle. Unfiltered pour, browninsh-orange. Allspice and cinnamon flavors. There’s some bite on the tongue. I prefer a milder Belgian Triple, but this one’s on par with many of the other domestics in the US I’ve tried. (Brewery on tap 09/23/2006 - Bottle Pour 10/01/2006)
