footbalm (1218), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Nov 15, 2005 Can’t remember where I got this but is was an East Coast Rater.Pours a murky cloudy copper-honey with a thin ring around the glass of foam. Nose is almost exclusively soured fruit, apples maybe with a bit of caramel. Really nothing special as nothing stands out here. Tastes better then she smells.Man, got some nice fruits and syrupy malts but for sure not real sweet.Kinda’ like a candied fruit. stubby (325), Santee, California, USA Nov 14, 2005 Good triple, if a little different than most. Almost an abt. Beautiful amber color, dark for a triple. Great sweet flavors of sugar cookies. Very filling, almost as full bodied as barley wine. Good stuff, especially for an American brewer. Sregnar35 (729), Rotterdam, New York, USA Nov 9, 2005 This is a very enjoyable belgian. It doesn’t jump out in any area, it’s sweet, but not too sweet. Fruity, but not too fruity. The 9 percent alcohol is nice. elnadeau (786), Laguna Niguel, California, USA Nov 7, 2005 Bottle, pours silty beige amber, aroma of yeast, fruit, spice and alcohol. Sweet fruity malt character is somewhat peachy with peppery notes, medium bodied mouthfeel, finish is somewhat bitter but quite yeasty with alcohol not well hidden. A decent beer but lacking some overall distinction that would elevate higher amongst it’s peers for the style. leitrim65 (398), Seattle, Washington, USA Nov 4, 2005 Copper color with a small white head floating on top. Strong aroma of sweet bananas, peach, pineapple, alcohol, and bubblegum along with elements of nutmeg, spice, and yeast. Good balance of flavors wth sweet flavors of fruit, molasses and alcohol most prevelant. Additional flavors of yeast, spice, and nutmeg contribute. The finish is a sticky sweet molasses type flavoring. Interesting beer. 441dave (1), Cumming, Georgia, USA does not count Oct 29, 2005 I like everything else in the Stoudt’s beer family, except this one. The Stoudt’s Abbey Tripel has a slightly soured malty aftertaste that I’m not fond of. When I taste a bottle-conditioned beer like this I think it probably just needed to "condition" a little longer. xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 27, 2005 Updated: Dec 3, 2005caramel milky way chocolate bar in a scotch on the aroma. Almost no head, deep rusty reddy brown beer. strong alcohol taste and a hint of figs, honey, and earth. Very nicely heartwarming for the end of october. Only complaint is that it doesn’t mask the alcohol too well and it gets bothersome after you’ve drank about a third of your brew. Thank the Good Lord Almighty for Pennsylvania brews. PorterPounder (3133), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Oct 25, 2005 Jax Package Store, Sandy Springs, Ga. - 12 oz bottle. Pours a thick, very dark orange with a tight white ring for a head. Sweet aroma, essences of red licorice, alcohol, and bubble gum. Sweet flavor with some candied sugar, sweet cake mix - orange perhaps - whichh was my favorite as a kid, and a touch of yeast. Mouhfeel is pleasantly thick and not too spritzy. VEry goo American take on a Tripel.
