dmac (886), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Feb 29, 2008 12 oz bottle purchased at Oak Tree, hi Dan and Jay. Poured a hazy brownish/orange with a large soapy white head that rapidly disipates and leaves no lacing, bummer. Nice aroma with lots of candied sugar, green apples, toast and yeast notes. Medium to full bodied with a smooth finish and average carbonation. Fruity flavor with notes of apple, brown sugar, yeast and dry toast. I served this one a bit to cold, God Damn well functioning refrigerator, but was a great take on an Abe Tripel.
DYCSoccer17 (2040), Davis, California, USA Oct 4, 2008 This was a 750ml bottle that was aged and cellared in my brother’s cellar. The bottle was dated 11/20/01. I can’t really remember where I bought this, but for some reason, I think I got it in Poughkeepsie, NY. This beer was opened in early September, 2008. Aroma is fruity, sweet, and berry-like with some brown sugar notes. Very aromatic and very pleasant. Quaffable. Cloudy, murkey, orange-amber body with a medium off-white/yellow head. Spritzy, spicy, estery yeast start with a slight astringency. Roasty, chewy malts in the middle with more dusty flavors late and a bit more spiciness follows. Nice stuff. Held up well. peter (350), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 1, 2008 Nose is slightly tart, clove and apple. Flavor has a crisp floral finish, with spices up front. Enjoyable, but thin. raphael (277), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 21, 2008 Fairly yellow, slightly clouds, thin white head. aromas of sugar, alcohol, dilute vinegar, nicely balanced sourness, like a less sweet sprite, light bodies for a trippel. joeyplush (59), Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 19, 2008 This beer looks great when it pours. A rich gold color, with a sparse white head. The aroma is fruity and hoppy, with evident alcohol. Taste has hints of citrus hops and slight apple/pear flavor. I expected the flavor to be a bit more robust based on the aroma. Overall, another very decent beer from Stoudt’s. nqualls (422), Tennessee, USA Sep 4, 2008 Poured a gold color into a tulip glass with a small off white head. Aroma of fruit, and spices (cloves and nutmeg?). Flavor was very spicy with a warming alcohol hint at the end. Good tripel. I wouldn’t proclaim is as great though.
