Frauditor (115), Hagerstown, Maryland, USA Dec 24, 2007 bottle 12 oz. pours golden rod faded by the sun. light foam thin lacing and palate. first smell is overwhelmingly peanut butter. the clove and spice almost distract from the alcoholic warmth that caresses your shoulders the further you sip. And sip you must as the abbey massage can quickly turn into a heavyweight fistfight for which you were highly unprepared.
blklab2007 (498), Connecticut, USA Jul 16, 2008 bottle poured into a trappist glass has a murky golden yellow color, carbonation streaming up the sides, and a thick coating of white head that had great retention. aromas of pollinated yeast, nutmeg, clove, sweet melon, and dried tropical fruit. mouth feel is medium with plenty of carbonation and coats well. flavor has a spiced yeast that hits first, interesting caramel sweetness, bitterness in the middle, and finishing with some alcohol heat, dry, and sweetened spice. good attempt at the style. Suttree (2265), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jul 12, 2008 Cloudy orange, thin white head. Sweet and sour aroma - not "sweet’n’sour", like the sauce you get a cheesy Chinese joints, but nicely pronounced notes of sweet and sour. Flavor is pineapple and orange followed by some herbal notes. Nice woodsy notes, as well, plus a rather pungent rosemary (?) note. Dry, woodsy finish. Chipper (28), Red Lion, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 25, 2008 Pour a copper color with an off white head. Very heavy aroma of fruit and spice. Very complex flavors with a little bitter mixed with sweet. An excellent beer. ucusty (803), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Jun 16, 2008 Thanks to JCB for this one! Copper pour With the aroma of a tripel. Sweet then bitter, with a fruity blast! Solid beer! douqep (7), USA does not count Jun 16, 2008 This is the closest US brewers have come to Blegian beer. Instead of making a Belgian-style beer, they went straight for the real thing somehow. Really strong, like some one tipped some whiskey into it, but true flavor to a traditional Belgian triple. Well balanced and satisfying....just don’t drink too many of them in one sitting.
