2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
33 cL bottle. Pours dark brown with a huge light brown head. Mouldy and dark malty aroma. Flavour is of blood and metal in a thick sweet caramel malt blend. Initial taste is revolting, but gets better along the way with a mild sweetness. Ends sweet. Not much stout about this one.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Tap at Hotel Erasmus. Aroma of cinnamon and honey, but overall very lacking in presence. Very sweet taste, lots of honey, lacking in any real stout flavors at all, despite the very dark brown head and thick black body. Perhaps the closest dark malt flavors I could pin on this would be more Schwarzbier type. Interesting beer, but it really misses the style. By miles.

2.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20
On tap at Erasmus. Black. Smells of figs, caramel. Body is full, and flavor is cloyingly, and with shock and impact, too sweet. It clears out a bit, but just zero balance here. Really needs some roast or hops, or god forbid, a bit more alcohol and a lower FG.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: JAN 25, 2008 33cl bottle: Pours inky black with a massive creamy and dark toffee head. Brown sugar sweetness wofts from the glass hints of chocolate, and licorice and caramel. There is an herbal vein running through the sweetness that turns slightly earthy. A little roast comes through the sweetness but not a whole lot. A cola-like sweetness hits you up front with licorice and chocolate in the back. Perhaps there is even a bit of black cherry and raspberry. This is a very sweet stout. Not much roast but a lot of fruit, including a slight green apple, and raw sugar. Flavor-wise, it is a bit one sided but there is just enough to keep you from being bored. Mouthfeel is full-bodied but seems lighter than what you would expect from the aroma and flavor, but thats a good thing. If it was any heavier it would be undrinkable. Slightly sticky with a looong cane sugar and caramel finish.
