Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Stor smag og en dyb smag af noget meget mørkt, næsten brændt karamel. Der er også undertoner af blommer.

Draft at Yardhouse in Seattle. This is a Belgian Quad on tap. Strong - alcohol present, sweet Belgian malts. Lots of dark fruit flavors - prunes, plums. The 3ozs in draft is best. In bottle sitting on a self wild make it better. Its exactly what its supposed to be... and I like it... but I would like it more mellowed in a bottle.

Backlog. Bottel shared with JMD at HNB 11.05.13. Dark brown. Fantastically nice beige head. Aroma of hops and berries. First taste is of dark berries, then of refreshing hops. Aftertaste is of dark malt with hop bitterness that lingers on. Average carbonation. A suberb beer, and the best quadrupel I’ve tasted.

Mooi donkerbruin bier.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet’s BU. Dark brown. Foamy, tan head. Bigger head than most quads. Plum, ripe fruit, alcohol, wort and malt nose. A bit vineous. Red, ripe fruit flavour. Plum, dates, raisins. Alcohol, some herbs. Candy and cola. Sweet. Medium to full body. Lively carbonation. Needs to be served quite warm. Good!

Pours a nice brown with creamy beige head that lasts a while. Aroma is malty with dark fruit. Flavor starts sweet, with dates, plums, and raisin notes. This is followed by sweet dark malt with no tannins or unpleasant notes to it. Finish is mildly bitter. It’s everything I look for in a quad. Excellent.

Bottle: Poured a dark brown/burgundy color ale with a super large light brown foamy head with excellent retention and some lacing. Aroma of candi sugar and dry fruits with light caramelized malt notes is quite sublime. Taste is a great mix between some candi sugar notes, some light dry fruits notes, heavy Belgian style malt with a light spicy/peppery finish. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no real apparent alcohol notes. Wonderful beer with just enough complexity and still retaining good drinkability.

Dark brown, medium creamy head. Dark malts aroma, taste is medium sweet, malty, some berries, a bit of booze. Very classic Belgian quad but excellent!
