COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown, reddish tint, with a massive soft, solid cream head. Looks fantastic. Taste does not disappoint! Dark red fruits, chocolate, no alcohol taste at all. Wow. One of my favorite beers of late!

Medium brown head. Hazy dark brown body. Malty rock sugar and spice aroma with licorice notes. Sweet, and somewhat dry, licorice and spice taste with herbal cinnamon notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish spicy cinnamon and toasted sugar aftertaste with vanilla and minerals notes. Nice and drinkable. Aftertaste is perhaps a bit short. (0.75l bottle, shared at de Vlaamsche Pot, Bruges.)

Mahognyfärgad öl med lätt beige skum. Doften är kryddig, jästig, fikon, torkad frukt och karamellsötma. Samma återkommer i smaken.

Tasty quadrupel. Body of sweet malt of course, with lots of dark fruit and herbs. High on alcohol, but that’s not present in the taste. Good beer.

11.2 oz bottle. 2012 release, aged ~2 years. Pours brown, almost mahogany and translucent. Plenty of carbonation, decent lacing. Aroma improves as it warms, kind of muted when it’s cold. I agree with description regarding palate and tastes...palate is just a bit dry. I messed up and didn’t taste this beer fresh, so it’s hard to compare 2 years old, but it’s great after aging! I really like this brewery, pretty much everything I’ve had from them is awesome.
