COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Bottle. Deep red-brown with a large foamy tan head. Aroma is densely malty, honey, liquorice. Flavour is big and rich--sweet malts, chocolate, caramelised sugar, yeast. Warming. This is nice.

Very nice. Smokey basement musk with a faint hint of chocolate. Pours dark cloudy brown with ok head and lacing. Light sour finish and a little bitter. Full aroma with some light floral yeast and hints of dried fruits. Some caramel. Bottle from De Vinos.

Bottle 33cl. Dark brown, near black with a light brown head. Aroma has caramel and sweetness. Not too special. But then you taste it and you?re taken to a lovely world of caramel, warmness, chocolate, coffee(?) and lots more. Lots of Co2 too. But it?s all balanced. This beer is art.

Bottle @ home. Bought from the brewery in 2012, enjoyed July 2014. Dark brown beer with a lacy head. Enjoyable quad. Obviously not as complex as R10 but a couple years aging has done good for the beer as it’s rounder and more enjoyable than fresh sample had in 2012.

750ml corked bottle pours almost black in color with a 2 finger light brown head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is dark fruits and chocolate with hints of licorice. Taste is dark fruit and chocolate malty sweetness with a herbal bitterness. Medium bodied with generous carbonation leaving a very pleasant sensation on the palate. Nicely done and recommended.

Bottle @ Den Tatoverede Enke, Copenhagen 16/7-14. Fruity with notes of dried fruit and alcohol, sweet and light caramely, medium to full body with an oily texture. The finish is dry and medium bitter with notes of alcohol.

- Sehr angenehmes Quad, wenngleich keine geschmackliche Offenbarung. Hätte durch längere Lagerung wahrscheinlich gewonnen.
