Not a lot on the nose, as this dark brown beer pours a thin head that stays with the beer. Tastes of malt, malt and more malt, with brown sugar at the back. Are there hops in here? If so, they are way in the background. But this meant to be sweet and strong. Probably lacks a bit of body for an 11% beer. As it warms, aroma of roasted something (nuts?) and vinious hints come through. Nice, but canít help think it should be nicer....just needs to be mire full bodied

Sin duda la mejor cerveza que he probado. Una cerveza muy lograda, muy bien estructurada, no desentona ningun aroma, ni el alcohol, tiene persistencia en boca, vamos, una maravilla.

Beautiful beer. Draft at Cheeky Monk, proper glassware. Poured a really nice had which persisted throughout the session. Lovely, sweet nose. Flavor was big yet very approachable, none of the wild notes I sometimes find in Belgian strongs. Compared next to St Bernardus 12 and preferred the nose and palate of this one. Delightful!

Bottle. Poured a clear ruddy brown color. The head was exuberant and tan with good retention. Dark fruits, clove, hay, alcohol, and a dash of brown sugar in the nose. Medium bodied and slightly sweet up front. Dry and earthy at the end with prickly carbonation and a warming alcohol effect.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Head is initially large, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting.
Body is medium to dark orange-brown.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (caramel, toasted nuts, roasted grain), lightly hoppy (flowers, apricot), lightly yeasty (cobwebs, basement), with notes of orange peel and coriander.
Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, velvety/watery texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic.
All in all better than expected. The aroma is a bit mild and nothing more exciting than "pleasant", but it is indeed enjoyable. And the mouth experience is quite pleasing considering the style. All too often quads are hard to drink due to being too sweet and/or syrupy and/or alcoholic. Or even sometimes too light and watery with some native Belgian examples where too much candy sugar is used in place of malt. But this one is in a nice little sweet spot with respect to flavor balance and mouthfeel...itís frighteningly quaffable but does not forsake body and malt richness, which is a rare quality. Maybe just a tad watery, but all things considered it avoids the pitfalls inherent with the style well. And on the tongue, the 11% seems much more like 8 or 9%. Not a "wow" rendition but well done.

Bottled 33cl. Tall head. Demerara and banana are most present in the nose. Sweet. Residual sugars in the finish which is reminiscent of caramel, earthy hops and raisins. Mediocre.

pours very dark copper color with a nice light brown head.aroma is sweet and floral.very complex flavours going on,raisins, caramel, malt, hops and a slight grapefruit undertone to it.nicely carbonated with a fizzy dry finish.overall this is very nice.for a quadrupel i was expecting something more sweet with a heavy presence of alchohol.more hopped than i was expecting and for 11 percent the alchohol doesnt stand out but complements all the other flavours.wasnt what i was expecting and im glad i tried this one

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Deep dark brown with overly large and unwelcome head. Aroma is malty, yeasty, sugary. Full body without much noticeable alcohol. Flavor is complex, brown sugar/malt, dark fruit, bread, dry but not overly so finish that is almost a little tannic. Very nice.
