COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Bottle from bierzwerg.de. Dark brown color with medium beige head. Sweet bubblegum in aroma with caramel, candied fruit. Taste, sticky sweetness with dates, toffee, molasses, candied fruits, alcohol (brandy?), nice light bitterness in sweet finish. Little bit too much on sweet side, but overall good.

orange hued brew with off white amber head. sweet and mildly fruity with essence of malt it is nearly cloyingly sweet but the fruit keeps it interesting. slick and chewy it is demonstrative and fine beer. sneaky little number.

Nice strong milk chocolate colored head of fine and dense bubbles. Rich malty aroma with some milk chocolate, sweet malts, raisins and plums. Color is a deep mahagony brown. Lively mouthfeel with more raisins, caramel malts and a feint hint of tart cherry. Light alcohol presence which is quite surprising for an 11% brew. Surprisingly dry finish with lingering sweet malts and alcohol warming. A pretty good brew.

Bottle. Brown red with a nice off-white head. Aroma of Candy and spice. Flavour has brown sugar, plums and spices. The alcohol is rampant. Sets your chest cavity alight. Very nice though.

Draft. Chewy is right. Thick clear body. Light brown great lacing. I barely detect any yeast which surprises me. Lots of caramel from the malt to get the high %. Not bad at all. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Opaque dark brown with a big foamy tan head. Darker semi-sweet quad. Burnt chocolate caramel. Charcoal. Cardamom. Black pepper on the tongue. Oak. Plum pits. Medium full body. Complex dark elements prove a good counterbalance to the quad sweetness. Excellent.

(Bottle, Stamine de Garre, Brugge, 17 July 2012) Dark brown colour, almost black, with ruby hints. Creamy beige head. Malty nose with caramel, dried fruit, raisins, dark bread and brown sugar. Malty, slightly toasty taste with notes of caramel, chocolate, dried fruit, brown sugar and a spicy bitterness in a finish with a slight alcohol bite. Full body, quite sweet. Excellently balanced and quite tasty. Very nice.

Pours a hazy golden amber. Smells of Belgian year, candy and dark fruits. Flavor is not as strong as the aroma in terms of the dark fruit flavors. Finish is bittersweet and very warming. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This quadruple is full of flavor with a nutty and bitter aroma to its dark brown complexion with a big white frothy head. It tastes full of flavor with hints of coffee and a palate that lingers on and on!

Bottle - 330ml. Dark brown body with a thin off-white creamy head. Complex malty/hoppy aroma with fruity, yeasty, and brown sugar hints. Alcohol is well hidden. Wonderful, well balanced malty/hoppy taste carries fruity, yeasty, vanilla, and vineous notes. Texture is soft and its bittersweet finish is long and warming. Lovely Quadrupel.
