COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Pours a clear red-brown with a lively tan head. Smells of cereal, creamy coffee, woody. Taste is malt-heavy, sweet, with a dry woody finish common to abbey ales.

Lovely dark colour. Rich, pungent, slightly sweet aroma. Tastes of treacle, demerara sugar and spiced fruit. Leaves a pleasant bitter-sweet aftertaste on the palate. Definitely one to sip slowly; could only drink one in a sitting, but would happily keep a few of these around for when the mood takes me.

Tap at Freshcraft. Clear ruby brown, almost light brown or so. Nice laceful but small head. Aroma of caramelized raisins, light chocolate, and toasty toffee. Taste delightfully has much more cocoa and toasted toffee with the added delightfulness of raisins, some light fig, and a lovely caramel tone. A little candy sugar in there as well. Sweet, caramelly, and dark fruity. Just great.

Bottle at Den Dyver, Brugge. Food pairing: Peru-chocolate, cinnamon, lime and chillies. Heavy roasted and caramel nose. The sweetness of the caramel returns in the taste, but as well some bitterness. Made it fit perfectly with the dessert .

Bottle at home. Clear dark red. Arome heavy malty (roasted, dark fruit). Flavor heavy sweet, light bitter, well balanced, with alcohol well hidden. Almost full body.
