COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

UPDATED: APR 17, 2015 33cl bottle grabbed in Tucson that is "best before Feb 2015." Fairly standard looking quadrupel pour with a decent head that recedes with nice lacing. Aroma is classic quad with dark fruit, caramel and molasses. True to form taste that follows the aroma but maybe a touch too much naked alcohol in the lingering finish. Good, pretty true to style.

Bottle. Dark chocolate pour with a thick mid-tan head. Nose is out of this world; some dark berries, cherry and blackcurrant, some toffee and treacle, caramel and raisins. Freshly spun sugar. I could plop my nose in the glass all day, but Iím desperate to see if it lives up to it in the taste... wham! It does, sort of - quite a thick drink, and those dark berries give it a sort of vinous quality but that 11% ABV makes itself know quite early on. A mild alcohol burn and a whack of alcohol tastes somewhat overpowers this and takes away from the malty warm profile it would otherwise have. I think this could benefit greatly from ageing. Delicious, if a little overbearing.

Bottle. Pours mostly clear dark brown with a large, creamy and frothy light tan head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is dark fruity esters (dates, plums, figs), earthy and woody hops, caramel and cookie malt, and lightly toasted grains. Flavor is malt dominant with dark fruity esters, cellar and wood notes, light hops and bitterness with spicy and peppery alcohol. Full body and medium carbonation, accentuated by the alcohol bite.

Brown bottle of 330 ml. ABV is 11%. Refermented in the bottle. Poured in a tulip glass. Colour i very dark brown. Huge head of somrthing more than 3 fingers, with creamy texture, beige in colour and excellent retention.Quite a lace left behind. Light caramel on the aroma, some roasted malts, fruits and alcohol. Great taste, roasted malts and coffee, with a long slighty bitter finish. Alcohol so very well hidden. A full body and average carbonation. Overall a great quad.

Fruity sweet aroma, bready malts. Beautiful dark reddish brown body with foamy off-white head. Sweet malty taste, a touch of bitterness. Abv well masked. Very good quadrupel.

Serving: 11.2 oz. bottle at Fire Works Leesburg. It pours a hazy brown color with a dense, light tan head. the nose is slightly spicy with light Belgian yeast notes, and a hint of banana. The flavor takes a mellow malt route with some dried fruit, dusty yeast notes, dried banana, and light bubble gum. Medium bodied with high carbonation and a slightly dry finish thanks to the high ABV. A solid quad.

Weer extra punten erbij.
smaak: en daar worden punten op verloren, jammer: medium zwaar bitter, gebrand mout(caramel) zeer hoppig, koriander. overriujp fruit volle body, volmoutig
afdronk redelijk bitter, droog.
totaan de aroma goed, daarna wordt het snel minder, helaas

33cl. Bottle. Poors dark ruby red, with tan head. Aroma dark fruits, caramel, sweet, malts. Taste fruity sweet, some alcohol, roasted, bitter. Mouth-feel creamy, thin. Complex quadrupel maybe not the best but really good.
