(Bottle, Stamine de Garre, Brugge, 17 July 2012) Dark brown colour, almost black, with ruby hints. Creamy beige head. Malty nose with caramel, dried fruit, raisins, dark bread and brown sugar. Malty, slightly toasty taste with notes of caramel, chocolate, dried fruit, brown sugar and a spicy bitterness in a finish with a slight alcohol bite. Full body, quite sweet. Excellently balanced and quite tasty. Very nice.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a hazy golden amber. Smells of Belgian year, candy and dark fruits. Flavor is not as strong as the aroma in terms of the dark fruit flavors. Finish is bittersweet and very warming.

This quadruple is full of flavor with a nutty and bitter aroma to its dark brown complexion with a big white frothy head. It tastes full of flavor with hints of coffee and a palate that lingers on and on!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle - 330ml. Dark brown body with a thin off-white creamy head. Complex malty/hoppy aroma with fruity, yeasty, and brown sugar hints. Alcohol is well hidden. Wonderful, well balanced malty/hoppy taste carries fruity, yeasty, vanilla, and vineous notes. Texture is soft and its bittersweet finish is long and warming. Lovely Quadrupel.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle:   Deep deep brown, moderate frothy sandy head, spotty lacing.   Soft dark pitted fruits and apple skin on a bed of bready alcohol.   Bright and spritzy up front, warming, strong apple skin.   Not as much dark pitted fruit as the nost suggested, even as minor as it was.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, seemingly more bubbley than most.   By the finish there is a bit more dark pitted fruit, but its overshadowed with a champagne like spritzy alcohol flair.   Pale fruit skin seems to reside start to finish.   While appearing to be a quad, it comes across as a bit lighter in body, flavor, but not in alcohol.   Tiz okay, but needs to be heavier and perhaps breadier with more dark pitted fruit in there.   Glad to have tried it tho.   Thanks Jason for the bottle!

Sampled on tap at PIB, pours a hazy amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, spices, brown sugar and dry notes. Flavour of brown sugar, Belgian spices and slight yeast. Quite complex, with a good dry, low sweetness quality. Very solid.

I had something calling itself Straffe Hendrik last night, this is the only beer by that name that seems to fit the description. Deep, opaque brown, tastes of coffee, brown sugar, an a slight burnt taste. Very good.
