COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Very dark brown, beige head, decent lacing though not as good as some quads. Ripe fruit and alcohol on the nose more than malt - sherry, raisins. Brown sugary - sweet, but balanced with toffee and some spice.

Molasses nose. Smells like it'll be a thick and syrupy barrel aged stout. Plum taste, very sweet.

Bottle in Bruges. Packed with flavour, caramel, malt, prunes, raisins, some bitterness, too, but firmly on the sweet side. Pleasant beer for sipping. Highly drinkable.

Marstonlad (408) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAY 13, 2014
Bottle at Kaisla, Helsinki. Pours dark brown with a little white head. Aroma has ripe, dark fruitiness, raisin, sweet caramel maltiness and, uncharacteristically, also a solid presence of vanilla and oak. Taste is strong, sweet and quite intense. Sweet malty notes, raisin and vanilla carry the taste towards the long, very light bitter finish. Again, the intriguing element of vanilla appears; coupled with sweet, ripe fruitiness the impression is slightly sherryish. The palate is full-bodied and sticky with a fairly soft carbonation. An elegant, varied quad overall.
