COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Nice and decent quadrupel but feels a bit too easy to drink. In taste caramel, toasted notes. Sweet and sticky. Good but cannot be compared to the big quad players.

Strong beer... very dark. Taste of forest fruits, sticky in throath. Nice foam. One is fine, two is ok, but three would be to much ;-)

Excellent. The aroma was outstanding..had a corked bomber, and popping it resulted in immediate awesome. Hoppy enough that it balances out the sweetness you normally get from a quad. The beer is ’sticky’ and coats the mouth along with having a lacing head that you just about have to spoon out.

0,3l Flasche. Dunkelbraunes Bier mit toller Schaumkrone. Riecht nach Röstmalzen und leicht nach Weinbrand. Im Geschmack angenehm, sehr gut abgestimmt. Es schmeckt nach Röstmalzen und Kaffee.

This is my second time trying this. The first was on tap at the Yard House a few weeks ago. This rating is for the bottled version, acquired from Julio’s. Poured into a snifter. A very dark chestnut brown color with a huge frothy tan head. Settles to a thick pillowy lace. Deep earthy-fruit aromas and flavor. Dark candi sugar is nicely balanced by a dry earthy bitterness. Chewy and silky texture. Fantastic!

Bottle 0.33L. Brown /chestnut body with reddish nuances; large, creamy, tan head, mostly lasting with nice lacing. Moderate-to-heavy malty (caramel) aroma with notes of dark fruits, cherries, raisins, spices and some alcohol. Moderate-to-heavy sweet and light-to-moderate bitter flavour; some acidic note in the finish, together with some alcoholic warming. Medium body with oily texture; soft carbonation.

Very deep copper body with a large, creamy, very dense, beige, very long-lived head that laces my glass excellently. Sweet and strong aroma that at the same time also is crisp and spicy. I get delicious notes of Belgian yeast, generic fruits, caramel and spices. The Belgian yeast is a main contributor to the strong flavour as well, along with generic fruits, caramel, brown sugar, alcohol and spices including black pepper. I also get notes of dried dark fruits, but they are fainter than they tend to be for this beer style. The taste is moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Full body, surprisingly dry and with a rather lively carbonation. World class!
