Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Awesome aroma, you can feel caramel, chocolate, toffee, alcohol, molasses, fruits... Just put your nose inside the glass and keep sniffing and you will discover new aspects. It is funny to see people looking uncomfortably at you. The taste is as good as the smell. Rich, creamy, heavy, oily, strong liquor.

Bottle, 33cl. Deep dark reddish with a frothy brown head and creamy lacing. Complex aromas of dried fruits, roasted malts, mint, Robust bodied with moderate carbonation. Sweet and bitter, with a stinging dried fruit character and a complex, bitter fruity and alcohol finish. A proper quadrupel.

Bottle, 330ml. A reddish brown beer with a medium size foamy head. Aroma is of dried fruits, alcohol, caramel and malt. Taste is bitter with a strong malt finish. Rich and heavy, with some carbonation and astringency. Aftertaste is full of malt and dried fruits. This is why Belgian beer is a gastronomic experience.

What a great beer! I like Quadrupple’s and this really is one of the greater. It hides a little stout-ish taste.

Within quadruple beers are three categories: the fantastic and essential; good, done with professionalism and craft but not wonderful; and you’d better not try to return them to cheat. This second type of beer. A good beer is a little excessive for the treatment of alcohol.
