COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

This is my second time trying this. The first was on tap at the Yard House a few weeks ago. This rating is for the bottled version, acquired from Julios. Poured into a snifter. A very dark chestnut brown color with a huge frothy tan head. Settles to a thick pillowy lace. Deep earthy-fruit aromas and flavor. Dark candi sugar is nicely balanced by a dry earthy bitterness. Chewy and silky texture. Fantastic!

Bottle 0.33L. Brown /chestnut body with reddish nuances; large, creamy, tan head, mostly lasting with nice lacing. Moderate-to-heavy malty (caramel) aroma with notes of dark fruits, cherries, raisins, spices and some alcohol. Moderate-to-heavy sweet and light-to-moderate bitter flavour; some acidic note in the finish, together with some alcoholic warming. Medium body with oily texture; soft carbonation.

Very deep copper body with a large, creamy, very dense, beige, very long-lived head that laces my glass excellently. Sweet and strong aroma that at the same time also is crisp and spicy. I get delicious notes of Belgian yeast, generic fruits, caramel and spices. The Belgian yeast is a main contributor to the strong flavour as well, along with generic fruits, caramel, brown sugar, alcohol and spices including black pepper. I also get notes of dried dark fruits, but they are fainter than they tend to be for this beer style. The taste is moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Full body, surprisingly dry and with a rather lively carbonation. World class!

0,33 bottle from systembolaget. - On the aroma this beer is heavy on the dark fruits. Slight leather and herbal hoppiness. Flavor is intense. Heavy on the dark fruits here as well. Tons of nuttiness, raisins. Not as dry as other quads, and i like that quite a lot. Delicious beer.
