Head: beige, medium, frothy, avg. retention. Colour: deep amber-brown, almost black.
Aroma: tropical fruit, grapes, fresh and minty hops and a fair amount of sharp vodka-like alcohol. Taste: rather sweet, licorice, rather bitter and spicy with a quite brutal alcoholic note.

Red-brown color. Foam vanished quickly. First sip brings a smile on my face. Warming and delicious. Slightly sweet and tastes of ripe plums and raisins.

Bottled. Clear dark ruby brown color, big lasting brown head. Aroma of caramel malt, loads of special B, raisin. Slight metallic, spicy belgian yeast. Quite malty taste, medium sweet, dry, drying alcohol. Burns a bit. Too alcoholic basicly.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Glouglouburp (5562) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 6, 2013
In short: An Belgian Abt (fruity, etc.) that is more roasted than usual. Good.
How: Bottle 330ml. Consumed approximately 6 months after purchase.
The look: Cloudy dark mahogany body topped by a medium fizzy dark-beige head quickly dissipating to a persistent layer of foam leaving lots of lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is estery, raisin pie, overcooked dark fruits, burnt pasty. Taste is burnt crusty raisin pie, crunchy roasted grains, Fig Newton™ cookies, a peppery spiciness, overcooked caramel, dehydrated prunes, black pepper spiciness, trappist-style yeast sensation. No alcohol presence whatsoever which was nice. Relatively low sweetness sensation for its style and size. Generous carbonation, maybe a little too generous considering the body wasn’t as full and rich as a 11% quad should be. The beer has many characteristics of a typical abbey Quad except that it is more roasted, it felt as roasted as many roasted imperial stouts I’ve had. A good beer but just average for the style, although I was told more recent batches have improved, will eventually try again. And I just try to express my honest opinions here despite those people who say I’m just an hypocrite who lies all the time, and I have the outmost respect for these people and wish them all the best.
4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 superspak (1473) - Michigan, USA - MAY 5, 2013
750 ml bottle into chalice, no bottle dating. Pours fairly crystal clear very dark reddish brown color with a nice 2 finger dense and fluffy khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with plenty of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, prune, apple, caramel, toast, toffee, molasses, pepper, light clove, cocoa, light roast, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of malt and fruity/spicy ester notes. Taste of raisin, prune, apple, molasses, caramel, toast, toffee, cocoa, pepper, light clove, light roast, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of dark fruit, molasses, caramel, toast, toffee, cocoa, light roast, pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible flavor balance and complexity of dark malt and fruity/spicy yeast esters; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy, slick, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is fantastic. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an absolutely incredible Quadrupel! Incredible balance and complexity of flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A totally world class offering.

Reddish-brown pour with a beige head. Boozy aromas of raisins, chocolate and sweet spice. Rich flavours of licorice, toffee, chocolate and sweet spice. Quite a throat warmer. Good, long roasty finish. Nice.
