COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

At a tasting, many thanks MrHangover, almost no head, quite clear dark brown colour, aroma of dried cherries and apricots, caramel and light oxidised notes, fruity sour flavour with woody and sherry notes, a bit too light bodied. Quite old but still interesting.

A dark brown beer with a medium and beige head. Aroma is cooked fruity, bananas, some dark fruits, raisins and hint of alcohol. Taste is malty, fruits, raisins, warming alcohol and herbal hoppyness. Full bodied, still quite easy to drink. Strong beer that is nicely balanced, there are nothing very special but still tastefull.

Pours very dark with fresh spicy aromatics reminiscent of bath beads. A canopy of terminal velocity expands and sticks like a mary lou rettin face plant on the pony boy express. Medium nectar with good carbonation. Very rich and warming with flavors of coffee bean, plum, nectarine, brown sugar. Theres a defined acidity that really holds it all together balancing out all the sugar. The finish lingers long into the session. A classy ale indeed.

Deep mahogany brown with a creamy cream-coloured head. Aromas of fresh allspice, cinnamon, cloves, molasses and dried currants. The first taste is a violently puffy and exploded on the tongue before llowing sensations of orange peel and allspice again to come through. Maybe some crystalised ginger and apple strudel? Dry finishing. A tasty devil.

Served cold at the brewery :( Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head that dies almost instantly. The nose is sweet with toffee and caramel notes, dried fruit aromas of prune and raisin about. A bit effervescent on the first sip with a first impression of a syrupy and rich brew. Rich malt profile with a bit of candy sugar and prune notes. Not overly robust but has a nice boozy accent. A good quad!

Bottle. Opaque dark brown with a big foamy tan head. Darker semi-sweet quad. Burnt chocolate caramel. Charcoal. Cardamom. Black pepper on the tongue. Oak. Plum pits. Medium full body. Complex dark elements prove a good counterbalance to the quad sweetness. Excellent.

Dark brown beer, white foam. Medium carbonation. Well balanced beer, full body. Aroma of dark fruit, chocolate, roasted malts and alcohol. Sweet and bitter. Nice beer.

Draft. Poured dark reddish brown with a huge head. Aroma of dark malts and cherry, maybe some other dark fruits as well. Taste adds a bit of chocolate. Light airy palate is unique and enjoyable but based on that and the head I do wonder if it was intended to be that way. All in all very nice and surprisingly drinkable for a quad.

Bottle. Pours brown (like Coke), with a large, tan head. Aroma is toffee, fruit, yeast, malt, and brown sugar. Flavor is toffee, malt, dark fruit, and a little alcohol. A pleasant surprise.

Bottle @Bruges. Dark brown coloured beer with high carbonation and a huge but diminishing tan head. Slight sweet dark fruit aroma, hints of burned sugar and alcohol. Medium body with a sweet malt, slightly roasted flavor. Finish is quite sweety dry.
