3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
330mL bottle BB 26-11-2016
Lively deep brown body, holds a nice creamy beige head, leaving clumpy lace.
Rich sugary aroma; treacley, molasses, dates & prunes. rum & raisin, some earthy phenolics.
Thick, viscous body, lifted creamy carbonation, serious length, smooth warming finish.
Particularly earthy on the body. There’s notes of dark brown/cooked sugars, but not particularly sweet, quite savoury, a slight bit tannic & dry with dark fruits & wood spice. Booze is not shy.
Tasty stuff, just a touch rough around the edges.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I’ve been sitting on this one since my pre-RB days. Okay, that’s not so long. Looks incredible - Deep tar pit brown with a big tan head that has no business on a beer this strong. So much lace I can barely read the Chimay logo on the opposite side of the chalice. Smells like old currants, dates and sweet baking spices. Yeasty bittersweet malt flavor that is only a letdown relative to the aroma. Very thick texture but smooth and easy drinking. Finish that dries out slowly. Highly recommended.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours in dark amber almost black color body, with hints of ruby againts the light. The head is light tan, pretty big and long lasting. The aroma has caramel notes, probably from the candi sugar, hints of toast, dried plums. Taste is heavy on high alcohols, caramel sweetness with high earthy bitterness, hidden by the sweet balanced. Body is full, oily texture, low carbonation.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle from Heinens shared with Brett, yeah it smells like dirt, and tastes very odd finishes dry and quickly with no lingering fruits or anything. I guess thats what their intent was but not all that enjoyable, alcohol is warming so thats a plus and it looks quad like.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle@Home. Prune and vanilla aroma. Brown, beige head, very nice lace. Sweet, very bitter, herbal, pepper, vanilla, laurel, quite complex. Warming and full. Pretty alcoholic, bitter for a Quad but very balanced. Different from any Belgian Quadruple IMO.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at The Fred. Pours dark brown with a small, beige head. The aroma is figs, molasses, cola, and black cherries. The flavor is very sweet, with a very little bitterness. The palate is medium to heavy, malty, sticky, and fairly carbonated. Overall, this is a delicious, well made beer, with a good flavor and nice mouthfeel.

UPDATED: FEB 20, 2013 Tartós hab, sürü sör, melyről már a kiöntésekor érződik az extrém alkoholfok, ami az ízét is dominálja, édeskéssé teszi. Majdnem maximum, bár ebben kicsit benne van a hely varázsa is (a helyszínen, Brugge-ben, a sörfőzdében kóstolva).

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours cloudy intense yellow with a steady head. Aroma is deeply malt, clearly pasteurised. Body is quite light to medium for a quadruple. Taste is a bit of green hops, but also a light sour yoghurt pinch. A mediocre Belgian beer, 13 in a dozen. On the plus side, the alcohol warmth is well hidden.

Shared a bottle for Thanksgiving. Really smooth sweet quad with no head or lacing but dangerous in that the alcohol level is hardly noted. plenty of dried fruits and wine notes/
