COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Pours a dark cognac colored brown with a large lasting tan head, light lacing. Aroma has caramel malt, yeast with dark fruit esters and some raisins and black figs. Taste same as aroma with some mild hops bitterness to mellow out the sweetness and sweet alcohol notes. Palate is a full , creamy, slightly thick and sticky mouth feel, good carbonation. Finish has very rich flavor, same attributes as taste with some brown sugar and a lingering caramel malt and sweet alcohol flavors. Alcohol seems well hidden but you feel it in the end. Overall a very good, delicious and flavorful brew.

black with ruby reflexes, small but long-lasting tanned foam; dark berries, floral, some chocolate or coffee; medium sweetness, lightly bitter, noticable alcohol; full body, thick feel, average carbonation, long dry finish; Overall: there are better quadruples (alcohol a little bit too noticable) but still, it’s a very good beer

Un très joli sigle de bouteille. Nearly the design of the Moonlight Brewing Company from California. A bucolic corner of the Sonoma Valley for this one, and the historical medieval city of Bruges for the other one... But the most important is what you will find in your glass !!! About the Straffe Hendrik quadruple, we have two things to say first : 1. A member of the Belgian Family Brewers, and an old story beginning in 1856 with the family Maes (not the one of the pils producer !!), and a first mention of brewing in 1546 !!! 2. One of the rare belgian beers with the name of « quadruple », unusual in our vocabulary. I have also seen that beer qualified as a barley wine. Let us see... First of all, a very high level : 11 % abv. A very dark color, very encouraging... Un conseil : try it, and after that you see a moonlight brewing in the sky...

Pours a dark brown-amber with light tan head. Aroma is a fix of fruit, spices, wheat and some yeast. Taste is similar to aroma but with stronger fruit and spices and a yeast/wheat aftertaste.

Bottle. Pours dark brown full tan head. Very malty aroma, caramel, licorice, dark fruit. Heavy sweet flavor. Fully body, texture oily, lively carbonation, mild bitter finish with subdued alcohol taste. Overall an enjoyable brew, good for a cold night.

Dark brow, almost black with small, lasting offwhite head. Sweetish aroma, raisins and alcohol. Mothfeel is creamy, malt and caramel. Not too sweet, moderately boozy. Dry but sticky finish.
