4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I’ve been sitting on this one since my pre-RB days. Okay, that’s not so long. Looks incredible - Deep tar pit brown with a big tan head that has no business on a beer this strong. So much lace I can barely read the Chimay logo on the opposite side of the chalice. Smells like old currants, dates and sweet baking spices. Yeasty bittersweet malt flavor that is only a letdown relative to the aroma. Very thick texture but smooth and easy drinking. Finish that dries out slowly. Highly recommended.

On tap. Cloudy red with creamy tan foam. Lots of lacing. Aroma of peach, pear, and apple. Fruit flavors are sweet and pronounced. Alcohol is drying. Finish is not as sweet with a hint of apple.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Shared a bottle for Thanksgiving. Really smooth sweet quad with no head or lacing but dangerous in that the alcohol level is hardly noted. plenty of dried fruits and wine notes/

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
average frothy light brown head. fair lacing. mostly diminishing. flat thick brown body. aroma: wood alcohol, mild coffee, dark bread, moderate malty. if: moderate sweet light bitter. ff: moderate sweet bitter; long duration. palate: medium body, oily texture, lively carbonation, light astringent moderate alcoholic finish.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle 33 cl from Le Grain d’Orge - Neuchâtel (CH). Brown with huge foam, complex aromas of fruit and alcohol, chocolate and caramel. Liqueur-like mouth, roasted and chocolate malt, round and sweetened. There are spices, hints of vanilla, pepper, raisin, burnt sugar, confectioner’s shop, and plum-pear. Finish in silky, moderate bitterness and warmth of alcohol. Nice.

Pretty classic version of the style. Lots of layers of dark fruit flavors, bit of alcohol in the finish.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle from Heinens shared with Brett, yeah it smells like dirt, and tastes very odd finishes dry and quickly with no lingering fruits or anything. I guess thats what their intent was but not all that enjoyable, alcohol is warming so thats a plus and it looks quad like.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle@Home. Prune and vanilla aroma. Brown, beige head, very nice lace. Sweet, very bitter, herbal, pepper, vanilla, laurel, quite complex. Warming and full. Pretty alcoholic, bitter for a Quad but very balanced. Different from any Belgian Quadruple IMO.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
330 ml bottle bought at Gorgeous Wine & Cigar in Yuen Long.
Looks: Translucent Burgundy colour with a thin ring of yeast sediments; One finger head and crumpety light beige foam which lasts for 3 minutes; Beautiful sticky lacing with quite fizzy carbonation.
Aroma: Fragrant and sweet dark malt, with light roastyness, almonds, strong caramel, sticky toffee, very light coffee, chocolate, cream, sugar, moderate alcohol, strong Bel yeast and light grass.
Taste: Strong but pleasantly sweet dark malt, with moderate alcohol, light liquorices, plums, caramel, light toffee, Cola, chocolate, light coffee, sugar, strong Bel yeast, light lemon, moderate bitter hops and grass.
Body: Full body. Very creamy and slick palate.
Mouth Feel: Good dark maltyness in a rich, very smooth and silky background. Booze and sugar hit first but they do not scream nor warming, but rather in light touch and pleasant. Strong caramel mixed with Cola and light coffee. Quite yeasty and increasingly lemony to compliment the sweet booze. It’s simple but the balancing work out just fine. Easy and nice!
Booze and Sweetness: The 11% abv is well hidden all the time, very well-managed and no knock on whatsoever. Incredible! Sweetness is strong but never cloying, as if it’s from chocolate bar. Very neat!
Hoppiness: Light grass in nose. Lemon and light grass in taste; Bitterness is fairly strong for a lasting, mid-astringent sweet booze finish.
After Taste: Fairly dry. Sweet, creamy and quite bitter to mouth.
Comments: Like its 9° Tripel brother, this Quad is simple in aroma and taste. Yet its foundation is rock solid, with beautiful looks and heads, very creamy body, very pleasant sweet malt, hidden booze and hoppy finish. It may not be as complex or colorful as La Trappe Quadrupel, but it’s very nice for chilling out. Recommended!
