COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Dark brow, almost black with small, lasting offwhite head. Sweetish aroma, raisins and alcohol. Mothfeel is creamy, malt and caramel. Not too sweet, moderately boozy. Dry but sticky finish.

Pours dark brown with bubbly tan head. Sweet grainy aroma full of fruits. The flavor is great rounded Belgian dark malts that match the rich rounded candied fruits with a toffee and light chocolate note. It’s a bit crazy but still really easy to drink and write tasty.

Superbe réussite encore une fois. Belle couleur foncée, bière maltée à souhaits, arômes d’alcool de fruits, quelques notes grillées et épicées. Les 11% sont par contre très violents.

Aroma - aroma is of caramel, dark fruit sugars, and spice. Appearance - super dark brown, liquid is clean, the head originally frothy and then settles into a fluffy moat that also laces down around the edges of the glass. Head is somewhat off white. Taste - the beer is more on the medium sweet side. Notes of dark fruit, spice and burnt sugar are present, rich alcohol is also abundant. Palate - the body is of medium to full nature, the texture slick and thick, nuances of sticky as well. The carbonation lively in the tongue. The finish bitter and full of booze. A hell of a night cap. I’m full of ABV. It’s super rich and sweet, which I’m not a fan of truly. It’s an ok Quad, but in truth I’m not a big fan of the style. It hits the marks, but to me it’s not enjoyable more like work.

33cl bottle. Pours dark chestnut brown with billowing tan head that sticks around with decent lacing. Aroma is full of dark fruits: plums, cherries, figs, dates are prominent. Also notes of spices, brown sugar, and a touch of booze. Taste is again full of the deep dark fruits alongside spicy yeast complexity, caramel, deep maltiness, and a definite note of alcohol and hop bitterness. A well balanced quad that doesn't quite hit the heights of its other Belgian peers - still a bloody good beer though.

Dark beer with a beige-white head. Sweet chocolate aroma. Flavour is malty, chocolate and medium sweet. Very nice brew. (Bottle 33cl)

33cl bottle, Delhaize. Pours clear dark brown almost black. Minimal head. Served it too cold. Sweet syrupy and perfumed nose, minimal burnt aroma’s, strong esters and alcohol flavor. Very much a sipper, palate is harsh, and moreso when warming up. This one is for the chain smoker I believe.

Bottle pour. Dark brown with limited head. Nose is candied plums, molasses and port. Taste is raison bread, brown sugar, grape skin bitterness. Generally complex. And sweet. Oh, god, this is sweet. Lots of booze.

14,13,12,12,11,12 - 12,30 - 5/3
