COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

black with ruby reflexes, small but long-lasting tanned foam; dark berries, floral, some chocolate or coffee; medium sweetness, lightly bitter, noticable alcohol; full body, thick feel, average carbonation, long dry finish; Overall: there are better quadruples (alcohol a little bit too noticable) but still, its a very good beer

Rating #607, bottle from Toft Vin Islands Brygge

A redbrown beer with only a small head. Aroma is berries and wood, chocolate, liqourice, though a bit tart and alcoholic as well. Flavor of berries, especially elderberries and blackcurrant, thereupon some chocolate and a bit yeast. A notch of alcohol and medium bitter finish. Thick and creamy palate.

Bottle. Dark chocolate pour with a thick mid-tan head. Nose is out of this world; some dark berries, cherry and blackcurrant, some toffee and treacle, caramel and raisins. Freshly spun sugar. I could plop my nose in the glass all day, but Im desperate to see if it lives up to it in the taste... wham! It does, sort of - quite a thick drink, and those dark berries give it a sort of vinous quality but that 11% ABV makes itself know quite early on. A mild alcohol burn and a whack of alcohol tastes somewhat overpowers this and takes away from the malty warm profile it would otherwise have. I think this could benefit greatly from ageing. Delicious, if a little overbearing.
