COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

0.33 bottle. Black with a big, milk-colored, creamy head. Aroma of dark malts, dark forest fruits, a touch of nuts and some sour notes, marzipan and raisins as well; only small hints of alcohol are detectable despite its huge ABV. Taste is quite sweet with certain sour tones acidic even, a lot of dark malts and chocolate, some fruits again. Full body, thick texture and flat carbonation. Finish is slightly astringent, has the sour notes previously mentioned emphasized. Overall the beer is really good but personally I am not fond of that sourness lingering in the background; could be improved.

Deep brown. Aroma is candied malt. Taste is dark fruits, BOOZE, malty yeastiness, strong sweetness. Finish is almost sickly with some bitterness on the tail end. Like a less complex Rochefort.

Pours dark brown with bubbly tan head. Sweet grainy aroma full of fruits. The flavor is great rounded Belgian dark malts that match the rich rounded candied fruits with a toffee and light chocolate note. It’s a bit crazy but still really easy to drink and write tasty.

Tap at Fermentoren Aarhus. The pour is clear, dark reddish brown with a big, tan head. Aroma has lots of dark dried fruits like plums, dates and figs. Also banana, toffee and a mild roast is present. Taste has a little licorice, but is carried by the same sweet fruits and caramel notes. Despite that, the licorice and freshness from the fruits are balancing it out quite nicely. Full body and medium to low carb. Pretty good, and maybe even underrated quad(compared to others) imo.

Bottle pour. Dark brown with limited head. Nose is candied plums, molasses and port. Taste is raison bread, brown sugar, grape skin bitterness. Generally complex. And sweet. Oh, god, this is sweet. Lots of booze.

33cl bottle, Delhaize. Pours clear dark brown almost black. Minimal head. Served it too cold. Sweet syrupy and perfumed nose, minimal burnt aroma’s, strong esters and alcohol flavor. Very much a sipper, palate is harsh, and moreso when warming up. This one is for the chain smoker I believe.
