COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Draft at Beer Art, Thessaloniki, Greece - pours beautiful dark, brown-red with huge tan-white lasting head. Big dark plums, nice esters, and dried fruit notes with a bittering hopped finish. Very good, lacing is gorgeous.

You can smell the alcohol with the caramel. The alcohol is a little bit unbalanced at the taste. Strong, full body.

2013.03.28 - Straffe Hendrik Brugs Quadrupel - 750ml bottle in pint glass. Label marked 21-11-2014. Aroma is candy sugar, plum and fig type fruit, some bready yeast. Sill, an atypical Belgian aroma in my experience. Appearance: Pours around 18 on the SRM scale, a beautiful rich clear brown. Light tan head is quite active, almost.perfect in carbonation and size, sticky. Taste: I agree with reviewer below "Subtle alcohol taste which brings a nice body to the beer. Then you can savour vanilla and caramel flavours and a little hint of a sweet and pleasant red fruit, perhaps raspberry". I don’t know how to describe it, a really nice balance of sweet, tart, and alcohol warmth. Perhaps a bit heavy on alcohol burn, but it’s an exceptional taste. Palate: Mostly light despite being an 11% abv, moderately high carbonation. A really nice beer, repeat purchase worthy for sure.

A well rounded and restrained quad offering initially distinct components which merge to create an enjoyably sweet and earthy ale from start to finish

A very deep mahogany body supports a 1", desaturated khaki head which falls to a thick, solid ring and thin continent producing thick yet fleeting, arcing peninsulas of lace
-
Smooth, well controlled candied sugars lead the way, introducing raisins, blueberries, figs, and prunes complimented by lighter, juicy sweet notes of apple and pear, married by dark caramel and molasses nuances, all rounded by a light finishing layer of milk chocolate on a smooth, medium body with restrained carbonation for the style, leaving a light, silky, sugary coating; residuals are a blended sense of the aromas and flavors with a building influence of clove and fruity ester finishing with a flair of alcohol warmth collaborating to communicate a sense of raw honey; I generally experience fall leaves and thanksgiving desserts, warm and sweet, but with a humble earthy character
