3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
330ml bottle perfectly served at De Halve Maan. Very alluring with its deep, rosewood coloured body and patchy surface. Mid-sweet aroma of dark fruits. Blended taste profile of dark malts and dark fruits added by dark spices. Full bodied with warming alcohol. Good drinking early on a Monday (Brugge, 02.05.2011).

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: MAR 22, 2011 Had this at Carmargue, Berchem, Antwerp, Belgiew 19-03-11. Glowing rich red ruby coloured beer with superb clarity, looks great. Alcohol sits very heavy in the mouth and there is a bittreness the persists throughout. Not sure whether this is a bit raw /young but it doesn’t work well for me, in fact the bitterness is quite harsh and quite medicinal at times, not really my thing couldn’t even finish it. 3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: MAY 16, 2011 Bottle from Beermerchants. Deep ruby with a fine cappuccino collar going the distance. Deep enticingly Belgian aroma; mouldering plum, dark mushy grape skins, orange liqueur stirred with a Twiglet, star anise, maybe some spiced green tea...not to mention a hearty dose of booze. Hot, yeasty and slick with an instant burn in the throat; wheat and orange peel tang, squashy stone fruits not quite dried, aniseed, finishing alcohol. Hard work at first, especially if its the first beer of the night, but opens up with a certain Belgian..something. A sharer, even in a 330ml bottle.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Corked and caged 75cl bottle pours out a nice deep mahogany with short lived tan head. Boozy head initially greets the nose followed by prunes, raisins, some caramel and spicy yeasty notes. The taste enters pretty smooth yet on the thin side offering up prunes, raisins and a thin ring of dates covered with caramel. The finish has mild notes of pure booze coming to the surface to close out the experience a bit on the rough side.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bouteille et quelle bonne surprise venant de cette brasserie brugeoise. De couleur rousse/cuivre, elle offre une mousse épaisse beige;

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
In short: An Belgian Abt (fruity, etc.) that is more roasted than usual. Good.
How: Bottle 330ml. Consumed approximately 6 months after purchase.
The look: Cloudy dark mahogany body topped by a medium fizzy dark-beige head quickly dissipating to a persistent layer of foam leaving lots of lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is estery, raisin pie, overcooked dark fruits, burnt pasty. Taste is burnt crusty raisin pie, crunchy roasted grains, Fig Newton™ cookies, a peppery spiciness, overcooked caramel, dehydrated prunes, black pepper spiciness, trappist-style yeast sensation. No alcohol presence whatsoever which was nice. Relatively low sweetness sensation for its style and size. Generous carbonation, maybe a little too generous considering the body wasn’t as full and rich as a 11% quad should be. The beer has many characteristics of a typical abbey Quad except that it is more roasted, it felt as roasted as many roasted imperial stouts I’ve had. A good beer but just average for the style, although I was told more recent batches have improved, will eventually try again. And I just try to express my honest opinions here despite those people who say I’m just an hypocrite who lies all the time, and I have the outmost respect for these people and wish them all the best.
