COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Deep dark brown color with beige head. Aroma of dried fruits, toffee, caramel and some hops. The taste has sweet notes, toast, and dried fruit with a soft alcoholic touch. Bitter finish with dark chocolate hints. Great Quad!

Nose has toffee, malts, alcohol and a touch of vanilla. Flavors are very complex. I get fruits (pears and oranges), spicey bread, some licorice. A background of brown sugars, some vanilla, alcohol, and yes even a little coconut. It has a full body and finishes slighty bitter and dry. I think this is a great beer and should get a second chance if it was rated poorly. It is very interesting.

Mooi donkerbruin bier. Heerlijk!

Bottle. Nose is barley, yeast, dough, dark cherry slight cola, sugar, plum, figs. Taste is cream, plums, cherry, a little chocolate, brown sugar, dough, then moving to a soft fruitier finish with a little strawberry and burnt brown sugar. There a some vanilla elements around the cream, and a little sherry and oak character in the burnt finish. An excellent complex beer, which covers a lot of ground.

Deep brown. Aroma is candied malt. Taste is dark fruits, BOOZE, malty yeastiness, strong sweetness. Finish is almost sickly with some bitterness on the tail end. Like a less complex Rochefort.

750 ml bottle purchased at Liquor Shed in Casper, $11.99 Another powerful pop when I removed the cage and cork. No spillage. Lots of foam so Iím waiting for that to settle down. Okay, it has a deep brown kind of mahogany colour to it, looks to be clear. The foam is off white bordering on tan. I see nice lacing. I smell some sweet goodness. Caramel malt that fades into a port like nose that also has some fruity aromas going on. Thatís not all; I get some notes of chocolate and some cherries. Some alcohol as well but itís pretty well masked. The taste is less sweet than I would have guessed. A port like flavour greets me at the door followed by toffee, figs, some cherries that add a mere hint of tartness. I also get more than a hint of the abv...lots of warming ensues. I wish more of the Port stood out but this is certainly tasty enough without that happening. Despite the big pop on opening and the great looking foam I see after every pour, Iíd call the carbonation on the near delicate side. This is a beer and brewery that Iíve never even heard about, probably saw it on the shelves in FT Collins but never noticed, but I really like this one a lot. It has a comforting feel to it.

Caramel brown. Fat, fizzy white head. Toffee, plums, alcohol. A little unbalanced, like the sharp edges need to be sanded down. Decent, but not awesome.
