COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Almost black pour with massive rocky head. Raisins and sweet juicy fruit aromas. Sweet, fruity caramel notes with some noble hops creeping in and a metalic twinge in the finish. Chewy and lightly carbonated.

Pours cola-colored with thin fizzy head that isn’t there for long. Extremely malty aroma with lots of caramel and dried fruit notes. Flavor is similar, and manages to be sweet and rich but not cloying. Exceptionally smooth for its heft. Good thing it’s a small bottle...

Cloudy black color with a bubble head.
Aroma of fruity esters, bread and hops. The flavor starts with a cloying caramel syrup sweetness followed by liquorice and a hopbitter finish.
A little bit too sweet for my taste.

UPDATED: JUL 19, 2014 33cl in a Trappist glass. Pours a wonderful dark brown colour with a white head. Aroma is sweet and wonderful. The taste is toffee, caramel, malt and very (ginger)bready. Too sweet and sickly for the style and extremely susceptible to temperature.

750ml Bottle. the aroma is very sweet and alcoholic - my first thought was that it smells like port. Threes raisins, chocolates and caramel in there as well as more fruitiness. It pours a dark brown almost black body with a thick lasting light tan head. Its taste is very similar to the smell with chocolate more to the fore and with burnt toast in there too. It has a bitter sweet finish. Not as sickly sweet as a lot of strong Belgian beers. Didn’t think Id like this one - but I was wrong!

Dark brown color, almost black, very thin creamy collar. Very pleasant fruity smell of barley. Very heavy beer with strong licorish taste. Strong but still pleasant to drink.

Caramel brown. Fat, fizzy white head. Toffee, plums, alcohol. A little unbalanced, like the sharp edges need to be sanded down. Decent, but not awesome.
