COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Bottle. Pours cloudy dark brown with airy light tan head. Sweet, clear aroma of malt, caramel, fruit, and chocolate. Ditto flavour, with touches of coffee. Bitter, boozy notes. Sweetish finish. Nice. Really nice. I just love Quadrupel :-)

Bottle, 11%. Good caramelly aroma, creamy with a distinct alcohol note. Almost clear dark brown colour. Small frothy off-white head. The flavour is sweet and alcoholic. Has a little tobacco and salt. Fruity notes in the finish. Warming alcohol, but not boozy at all.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2014 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Mid to dark brown, reasonably translucent. A fair bit of carbs and khaki head. Full aroma of molasses and plum pudding. The taste is sweet but manages to stay rounded. There’s a full alcoholic kick as well. Very warming on a horrid January night.

Malty aroma with slight fruitiness like raisons. Poured light from bottle with barely any head. Clear coffee brown with edges of gold. Fantastic malty quad flavor. Light on the palate. Strong alcohol with sweet lasting after taste. This is a worthwhile Belgian quad. I will gladly drink this again!

Bona quadrupel, tot i que es nota molt l’alcohol. Recomanable predre-la poc a poc per descobrir diferents matissos. Buena quadrupel, aunque se nota mucho el alcohol. Recomendable tomarla despacio para descubrir diferentes matices.

750 ml bottle purchased at Liquor Shed in Casper, $11.99 Another powerful pop when I removed the cage and cork. No spillage. Lots of foam so I’m waiting for that to settle down. Okay, it has a deep brown kind of mahogany colour to it, looks to be clear. The foam is off white bordering on tan. I see nice lacing. I smell some sweet goodness. Caramel malt that fades into a port like nose that also has some fruity aromas going on. That’s not all; I get some notes of chocolate and some cherries. Some alcohol as well but it’s pretty well masked. The taste is less sweet than I would have guessed. A port like flavour greets me at the door followed by toffee, figs, some cherries that add a mere hint of tartness. I also get more than a hint of the abv...lots of warming ensues. I wish more of the Port stood out but this is certainly tasty enough without that happening. Despite the big pop on opening and the great looking foam I see after every pour, I’d call the carbonation on the near delicate side. This is a beer and brewery that I’ve never even heard about, probably saw it on the shelves in FT Collins but never noticed, but I really like this one a lot. It has a comforting feel to it.
