Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

330 mL bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA. Dark brown cola-like pour with a frothy khaki head. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruit, and candi sugar. Taste is of raisin and booze. Alcohol warmth is very noticeable. A nicely done quad.

Deep mahogany brown with a creamy cream-coloured head. Aromas of fresh allspice, cinnamon, cloves, molasses and dried currants. The first taste is a violently puffy and exploded on the tongue before llowing sensations of orange peel and allspice again to come through. Maybe some crystalised ginger and apple strudel? Dry finishing. A tasty devil.

Surprisingly very good quad. I didnt like their tripel that much, but this one is much better. Aroma and taste is a mix of malts, with pleasant sweet undertones, i csn detect nice plums. Appearance is a bold black with a frothy tan head. Highlight by far is the palate, which is heavenly smooth and rich for 11%. Goes down like iced tea, and immediately lets you know this is an accomplished ale. Overall its very good, only lacking boldness to the flavors.

Bottle. Nose is barley, yeast, dough, dark cherry slight cola, sugar, plum, figs. Taste is cream, plums, cherry, a little chocolate, brown sugar, dough, then moving to a soft fruitier finish with a little strawberry and burnt brown sugar. There a some vanilla elements around the cream, and a little sherry and oak character in the burnt finish. An excellent complex beer, which covers a lot of ground.

Dark brown color with huge beige head. Aroma is almonds, dark malts, black bread, some cherries. Taste is similar, dry finish, not boozy at all. A very rich and very dry-malty Quadrupel. High, but soft carbonation. Very good, but I prefer the not-so-dry-malty ones.

Bottle: Poured a dark brown/burgundy color ale with a super large light brown foamy head with excellent retention and some lacing. Aroma of candi sugar and dry fruits with light caramelized malt notes is quite sublime. Taste is a great mix between some candi sugar notes, some light dry fruits notes, heavy Belgian style malt with a light spicy/peppery finish. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no real apparent alcohol notes. Wonderful beer with just enough complexity and still retaining good drinkability.

Clear deep mahogany, 2 finger light brown creamy / frothy head, some lacing. Mild sweet aroma, fruity, bubblegum, vanilla, raisins, later berries, bread, fruity notes turn more ripe, quite nuanced and lively. Medium to full body, semisweet, mild bitterness, soft carbonation, alcohol evident. Nice, balanced, nuanced, lively. Advent beer 11.
