COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Pours a beautiful black beer with a good white head. Smells like red wine and sweet. Pretty nice. Taste is quite nice. A bit licorice and chocolate. The palate is perfect with this one.

Bottle. Pours brown (like Coke), with a large, tan head. Aroma is toffee, fruit, yeast, malt, and brown sugar. Flavor is toffee, malt, dark fruit, and a little alcohol. A pleasant surprise.

Bottle from Mam and Dad’s holiday, Belgium. A very dark brown beer with a rich malty and chocolate flavour, spicy red fruity notes, sweet creamy oak and vanilla on the finish..

Bottle. Pours a deep mahogany with a dense light tan head that leaves a lot of lacing. Aroma and flavor are toffee, caramel, date, fig, cherry, and some earthy yeastiness. Fairly sweet, but finish is dryer. Flavors get more complex as it warms. Mouthfeel is thick and a bit chewy. Alcohol is there but very well integrated.

Tap at SIBF 2012. Pours a murky brown, with sweet dark fruits and baking spices predominant. Lovely, and the flavor follows. Hops on the back, but this is mostly sweet brown sugar and fruit -- similar to pannepot. Just great -- one of my new favorite quads!

Deep dark brown brew with a big creamy pale brown head on its top. Intensive tart, dried fruity (raisins, plums) nose and aroma escorted by chocolate, hops and some alcohol in the background. It finishes warming and tart with citrusses, peppery alcohol, dark chocolate and spices, which leaves a long tart aftertaste behind. Easy drinkable, delicious one.

Countbeer (2920) - Best of Eindhoven ohne Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - JUL 7, 2011
Draught @ OBM’11: Beige tan head on top of a darker colored beer. Smell flowers, sweets, malts, liquorice, some candy and barleys. Taste is a full mix of liquorice, spices, barleys, toasted malts, more bitter than sweet, herbs, hint of fruits and sweets, bit sticky. Low carbo, soft (light creamy) mouthfeel, full body and a sticky texture. Lovely beer!

Bottle 33 cl from Le Grain d’Orge - Neuchâtel (CH). Brown with huge foam, complex aromas of fruit and alcohol, chocolate and caramel. Liqueur-like mouth, roasted and chocolate malt, round and sweetened. There are spices, hints of vanilla, pepper, raisin, burnt sugar, confectioner’s shop, and plum-pear. Finish in silky, moderate bitterness and warmth of alcohol. Nice.
