COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2016 Brown/Black pour with a medium creamy head and nice lacing. Dark malts and booze aroma. Taste is medium sweet, malty, some dark berries, molasses, some booze but less the promised. Very classic Belgian quad, a tasty sipper.

Komplex, ausgewogen und für meinen Geschmack einer der besten Quadrupel der Welt. Eine Geschmacksgranate. 0,1/1 Jetson vom Fass beim ZYTHOS BEER FESTIVAL 2016 in Leuven.

750ml bottle picked up at Surdyk’s and consumed with commonshawn. It’s an emotional moment as this is the celebration of RateBeer 1,000. Hard to believe we’ve finally arrived at this milestone. Moeder Lambic glass acting as the perfect consumption vessel. A deep, murky reddish brown color...maybe even caramel. Nose has a heavy sweetness with plums, raisins, and a lead in to a big alcohol presence to come. The taste is heavy on dark fruit as well with a plum/raisin/maybe cherry quality. Caramel and malty backbone that isn’t content to simply linger in the background. Mouthfeel is pretty thick and has a bready feel to it. There is an ever present sweetness. The second glass of the large share bottle seems to have a bit more character to the mouthfeel...almost more vibrant and assertive. The alcohol warmth is obvious and it doesn’t hide from its high ABV. A great choice for #1,000 and the perfect setting to consume...one of the best quads available.

0,33 l bottle, bought in Amsterdam.
Clear mahagony colored ale with a medium creamy tan head that melts down to a fine lacing one. Intensive herbal aroma with fruity alcohol, cherries, raisins, liqueric, herbs like thyme, cocoa and cinnamon, nutmeg. Oh my god, complex aroma - what about the flavor? Medium, easier bodied than expected. Herbal character with a caramel-toasted cocoa some coffee in the background, spicies. Integrated chaos in the flavor. Cherries and tobacco, earth and herbs, thyme again with some candy sugar. Herbal aftertaste. Very complex, fantastic!

Thanks Armando 629! A fajta szerelmeseinek kötelező darab!

Tap at Freshcraft. Clear ruby brown, almost light brown or so. Nice laceful but small head. Aroma of caramelized raisins, light chocolate, and toasty toffee. Taste delightfully has much more cocoa and toasted toffee with the added delightfulness of raisins, some light fig, and a lovely caramel tone. A little candy sugar in there as well. Sweet, caramelly, and dark fruity. Just great.

12 oz Draft. Pours heavy dark brown with thin head. Coffee and chocolate flavors wonderfully cover up the high alcohol content.

Bottle shared with lucky husband MichaelBruch. Dark brown to almost black in colour, with creamy head. Very creamy and smooth texture. Taste of rich malt, sweetened espresso, creamy hops, dried fruits and raisins. Really delicious beer.

Bottle. Dark chocolate pour with a thick mid-tan head. Nose is out of this world; some dark berries, cherry and blackcurrant, some toffee and treacle, caramel and raisins. Freshly spun sugar. I could plop my nose in the glass all day, but I’m desperate to see if it lives up to it in the taste... wham! It does, sort of - quite a thick drink, and those dark berries give it a sort of vinous quality but that 11% ABV makes itself know quite early on. A mild alcohol burn and a whack of alcohol tastes somewhat overpowers this and takes away from the malty warm profile it would otherwise have. I think this could benefit greatly from ageing. Delicious, if a little overbearing.
