11.2 oz. bottle, consumed on 6-10-12. Labeled as “Straffe Hendrik Bruges Triple Ale.” Sweet, buttery, floral aroma features apricot, croissant, candy sugar, brown sugar, orange, and lemon scents. Pours an orange/copper. Liquid is effervescent and hazy with some suspended particulate. The color is cool, and the light-colored flakes of particulate are appealing. Small to moderate amount of cream-colored head. Some lacing. The flavor matches the aroma: Candy, yellow plum, and toffee; quite sweet. Salty, sharp finish. Lightly dry, spicy aftertaste. Heavy body. Frothy and smooth in the palate. Straffe Hendrik Bruges Triple Ale is good but not great, reasonably enjoyable but not memorable.

Bottle. A hazy orange gold pour with a gushing soft being head. Sticky lacing remains. An aroma of soft fruit and candy sugar. The flavor is that soft fruit, yeast, heavy malts and a tinge of sourness late. It is generally sweet and sugary. No hint of alcohol at all.

Paid a hefty price for 11.2 oz. bottle @ Table and Vine, West Springfield, MA. Bottle marked BEST BEFORE: July 2013. Used an Allagash chalice. Golden amber color, ¼ inch thick white head, decent retention. Real nice fruity nose of pear, dried apricot and clove. Average Co2. Lots of flavor considering the light body and soft texture. A mildly spicy hop plays well with the fruit, Candy sugar and Belgian yeast. ABV does show up a bit. A nice classic Triple. Well worth a try, just be careful what you pay for it. Don’t over pay.

Bottle. 25.4 oz. Pours a peachy amber with a creamy, rich, white head that leaves a solid ring around the edge of the glass. Aroma of grapes, figs, honey, lemon, tangerine, roasted barley, and soft floral notes. Medium bodied with a well rounded, tart, ripe-fruity, crisp palate. Finishes with a slight bit of booze and tons of pears. Great tripel. Interesting.

Bottle: Aroma of malt, citrus fruits, hops. Amber color, off-white head. Flavor is malty, light sweet, notes of candy, grain, caramel and herbal hops. Not very complex...

Bottle from Bruges poured into tulip. Attractive golden color, very clear, looks quite carbonated, appropriate sized head for a tripel, slightly eggshell white, pillowy. Nice typical tripel aroma, sweet, hoppy, yeast, slight spice (little less than most trips), hint of orange marmalade and banana. Taste is more of the same. FInish starts off sticky and spicy before a slightly harsh metallic backend. Despite that, good overall but could’ve been a tad better.

Bottle: Deep golden, hazy, fluffy off-white head, orangey-musty nose; solid sweet-bitter flavour, medium to full bodied; lingering orangey bitter-sweet finish with some warming alcohol in the aftertaste. O.K., but disappointing......
