Traditional top-fermentation beer that referments in the bottle. Brewed by the unique family brewery De Halve Maan, which has been located in the historical heart of Bruges since 1856. Straffe Hendrik is an authentic Belgian Triple beer, still brewed according to the original recipe. To serve cool.

Bottle, Christmas gift from Tom. Hazy golden body with a thick white head. Lively carbonation. Excellent lacing. Aroma of salt, pear, white pepper and yeast. Flavour if hay, salt, caramel and slightly browned apple. Full body with a creamy mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. A well rounded Tripel that, for me, is a bit shy on the sharp, citrusy flavours. Reminds me of my honeymoon in Bruges seven months ago.

Trübes Gold mit feiner Crema. Hefig fruchtiges Aroma. Süßer Beginn, getreidig und leicht brotig, recht trocken. Der Abgang ist ziemlich alkoholisch bitter. Zu empfehlen mit der regionalen Küche, sonst eher nicht.

33cl bottle. Hazy orange with big head. NOSE : yeast aromas of white cheese, burnard aromas, cereals and corn, cooked veggies, sweeter aromas of cherries, bananas and pears. SIP : quite thick for the style. Good carbonation and creamy texture. Sweet cereal flavors on the start. Has an acidic and boozy middle with all the fruit and other ester aromas that make the surface. Thanks to a huge malt character and body it incorporates esters really well, rendering them round. Fruit like flavors are present till the end. They are mostly pear and banana like. Hoppiness reveals itself slowly and reach the peak in the end. Bitterness is moderate but the aromas are more pronounced. Mostly flower and pepper like. After couple of sips I discover some honey notes as well. Aftertaste is delicate bitter, moderate acidic and a good portion of sweet. OVERALL : it surely is a huge beer. I was expecting something special out of it since I’m a big fan of the quad under the same label but I didn’t know what would make it special. Huge body is certainly their trade mark. Full complex flavor. Even though the expectations ware high I am not disappointing.
