33 cl bb September 2015. Lightly hazy orange-golden body underneath a huge creamy head. Nose is fresh-sliced pear and apple with a dash of earthy, peppery spices and a dab of honey. Tastes of apple and pear soaked in white wine and honey. Some earthy resin and dry wheat also tone down the sweetness. Near-medium body is well balanced and has medium-high carbonation, but never flares up in the mouth.

Pours in amber ruby body with low head. Aroma is light toasty, honey, light fruity in the background, sweet sugar. Taste has caramel notes, candy sugar sweetness, light dried fruit notes. Honey after-taste, very low biterness. Body is full, dry with medium carbonation.

(Bottle) hazy amber with huge dense white head. Complex aroma: peppery spice over malt, stone fruit and maybe a hint of funkiness. Lovely palate with medium body and carbonation which is both lively and imparts a creamy mouth-filling experience. Great taste, although quite straightforward. It starts off slightly sweetly malty and develops strong spicy notes that in turn develop into good bitterness for a long finish. A very pleasant, and somewhat different, strong Belgian beer.

This is a wonderful beer that impresses me every time I drink it. It is true that it does not have the funkiness of the Karmeleit, but it does bring quite a few twists and turns to the table. When I first tried it I thought I had opened a quad instead, but it grew on me as I continued my glass and had won me over by its conclusion. While this is not a textbook example of the style it certainly has its charms and should be picked up instead of drinking the same old tripel over and over.
