This is the regular Straffe Hendrik Tripel, but this time fermented with wild Brettanomyces yeast strains.

Aroma of Belgian yeast, floral, apple. Sweet, bready flavor, a little spice, a little bitter. Not picking up much brett in the mix. A decent tripel, perhaps with a small hint of funk somewhere in there.

Bottle: Thanks, Mike. Bright, cloudy golden body; translucent & capped with a chunky, dim white foam, moderate lacing left on the glass. Aroma of sour mineral water, light clove, bubblegummy yeast esters, dusty cobweb funk, a touch of wet hay, & some tart green apple. Itís like a confused teenager that canít decide between wild ale or tripel & for some reason, the two profiles remain delineated for me rather than meshing well as one. Same with the flavor... You get those typical tripel & Belgian strong ale flavors of gum, clove, mint, faint banana, & plum with sharp undertones of Bretty sourness, dusty hay, & green apple. Strong mineral character with light phenolics. This didnít flow for me quite like I would have hoped. Not bad, but not worth a revisit.

(33 cl bottle courtesy of Douberd poured into a burgundy glass; BBD: February 13th 2019) Pours a semi-clear amber with two finger white head that recedes somewhat but retains one finger for a decent amount of time with some nice lace. Is this beer refering Orval I wonder? Canít smell any hops in the aroma as such itís mostly apple cider brettanomyces. Oily texture, lively carbonation, light to medium body and a balanced somewhat tart finish. As itís still relatively fresh the beer retains a bit of residual sweetness in the flavour to balance off the tart impression. Competently executed but not my favourite tripel.

330 ml bottle. Slightly unclear deep golden body with a big, fluffy, long lasting off-white head. Aroma is light fruity, light funky and spicy. Flavor is sweet pale malt, moderate fruity, light acidic, funky, spicy, and white sugar. Low bitterness. Body feels light and balanced, same goes for the delicate balance between the sweetness, the acidity and the alcohol Ė nothing stands out in front of each otherís. A nice and delicate beer that has more complexity than a few sips will ever show.

Bottle (330 ml). 2014 vintage. Small gusher. Clear golden with a medium fully lasting creamy off-white head and some lacing. Aroma is of nice smooth dusty brettanomyces with cereals, mineral notes, light spices and a touch of alcohol. Taste is also of brettanomyces (less than aroma) with cereals, light spiciness, alcohol (more than in the aroma), dust, mineral notes and floral presence. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Warming finish. Light lingering spiciness. Very good Tripel with a nice brett touch. A tad heavy, but the balance is good enough to keep the beer "drinkable" (for a 9% abv Tripel).

33cl Bottle from Prik&Tik Pauwels. Hazy golden orange colour, dense off-white head. Aroma of Brettanomyces funk, hint of poo, light salty, soft sweet fruits, stone fruits, peach. Flavour is medium sweet, fruity, stone fruit, light funky, citrus, nice fruity and light hoppy bitter finish. Medium-bodied, soft carbonation, surprisingly. Alcohol barely detected. Really nice.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Geur gist.
