Lily Flagg Milk Stout is named for Huntsville’s most famous quadruped. A prize cow owned by local plantation owner Samuel B. Moore, Lily Flagg was honored as one of the world’s best butterfat producers in 1892 at an exposition in Chicago. This dark, rich beer contains tons of roasted malt goodness, hints of chocolate and coffee and a creamy mouth feel from the addition of milk sugars during the brewing process.

Black with a brown head. Roasty aroma with some chocolate. The flavor is similar with nice mellow sweetness. Fantastic stout, surpassed my expectations.

Poured from a can, heavy carbonation, light brown head, immediately catch the coffee and dark chocolate aromas. A bit thin but rich chocolate burnt coffee flavors with a hop bite at the finish. Decent session stout.

Ugh. Not a fan of this beer. Aroma was decent. Light chocolate notes with a hint of vanilla. Pour was a nice enough deep dark brown with a one finger tan head. Taste was not good. Strong carbonation with a very strong off flavor that drowned out almost everything else. Making a beer with this low ABV, the flaws are magnified and while I can’t put my finger on what it is, the strong off flavor (alcohol and esters maybe?) made me dump it and I normally don’t do that. Nice strong carbonation if nothing else

First Alabama rate! Very tasty! Appropriate silky body with larger bubbles. Slightly smoky milk chocolate grassy flavor with a long smooth finish.

Cola brown with a mostly lasting head. Twangy lacto, walnut, light roast, minimal char or chocolate. A hint of herbal bitterness. Almost like a hybrid between a dark mild and a northern porter more than a sweet stout but sort of a wee bit of that too. Sessionable.

Aromas of milk chocolate, slight alcohol. Brown-black with a fairly lasting beige head. Alcohol flavors, a little chocolatey, peanut butter, some purple grape. Medium bodied.

BIF project. Can to pint glass. Appearance: Brownish black with a thin caramel colored head. Aroma: roasted coffee beans, pecans, raw chocolate, dark roasted malt. Taste: it tries to get the coffee and chocolate notes started, but overwhelmed by the lactic sweetness. Decent hop bitterness for a milk stout. Palate: a little harsh on the carbonation. Lactic sweetness permeates and won’t go away. Good beer; almost very good.

Can. Small tan head. Rough roasted charred smell with sour lactose and notes of cola. Empty watery palate. Some sort of olive flavor with milk chocolate.
