3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BeerViking (1428) - Lüneburg, Lower Saxony, GERMANY - FEB 22, 2013
Bottle from Bierland, pours espresso brown with a medium sized cafe-crema coloured head, nose is roast coffee, prunes, a little cocoa. Rich bodied, initially roast malt and coffee, then a sweetish fruity mid-body with sultana and toffee notes, and finally a dry-sweet and faintly hoppy finish with a hint of cocoa. The aftertaste is a little too syrupy, but the edge of burnt treacle and an emerging hop bitterness cuts it reasonably well.
