A limited release and fine one at that. It's a black IPA which gives you the hops you like with a bit more. 7.5 ABV so can be enjoyed frequently with just a bit of caution. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Idiosynkrasie (4099) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - DEC 14, 2014
500ml bottle. Clear, dark mahogany colour with average to huge, thick, frothy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Dark malty aroma has chocolate and coffee notes, slightly weak hoppy counterweight delivers disguised hints of orange and grapefruit, a touch of blackberry. Taste is dry, roasty dark malty, hints of coffee, slightly grassy, herbal, minimally biting bitter hoppy overtones, hints of blackberry; soft palate, a bit light bodied and almost close to watery. There’s leeway for progression.

Bottle from Ales by Mail. Black pour with a beige head. Aromas of chocolate, soy sauce, toffee, caramel and dark fruit. Lots of licorice and raisin in the flavour. Light bitter zing. Doesn’t quite fit my idea of a Black IPA, not enough bitterness for me. Still it was a tasty old brew.

Bottle. My first from this brewery. Black with a small head. Dry with hops in background. Quite interesting but a bit one dimensional. Not as powerful as I expected but still a reasonable if average beer.

Bottle 500ml (BBE 01/2015, ABM)
Dark brown color, good steady brownish head. Sticky aroma has ash, licorice, rye bread. Medium-bodied. Ashy, dark malty with some licorice. Bitter, harsh aftertaste. With its ashy-burned, bitter flavor, it is a bit unbalanced for my taste. Probably when it is fresh, hops taste better here.

Bottle @benzai. Black colour, small off-white to beige head. Smells roasty, peat, whisky, roasty. Tastes roasty, bitter, sweetish, hops, chocolate, slightly caramel, vanilla, almond. Medium to full body, soft to medium body.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared by Dutchdrebus. Opaque dark brown to black color, full sized decently lasting rough slightly brown head that leaves fair lacing. Aroma is malts, light to moderately hoppy, lightly roasty, slightly iron. Taste malts, lightly hops, roasted malts, bitter. Hmm quite nice: malts, dark and roasted malts mixed with some hops. Decently lasting roasty hoppy aftertaste. Medium body and carbonation. Pretty damn nice! Well balanced!!

allmyvinyl (4244) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - OCT 10, 2014
500ml bottle shared with Ashton McCobb, Cheers Ash! Pours black with a fading tan head. Aromas of liquorice and tar, dark chocolate. Taste is cocoa bitter, then a hit of hop bitterness. More a bitter dry stout than a Black IPA.

50cl bottle thanks to David. Appearance - like a coffee with a big frothy crema head. Nose - liquorice into tar. Taste - loads of liquorice, mountain herbs. Booze. Palate - medium to full bodied with a big boozy middle section that then leads into a finish that lasts for ages and eventually dries out. Overall - this is delicious but style-wise this is a hopped dry stout, in my opinion.

500 ml bottle. From alesbymail.co.uk.
Dark reddish brown colour with a big foamy light tan head. Liquorice, dryness, urinal, malt and grassy hops in the aroma. The flavour is liquorice, hoppy bitterness, roasted malt and dryness. A bit harsh.

Large sample during a Beer and Indian Food evening at The Clay Oven, Irvine Orange County on 14th July 2014. Looked good and interesting: it was in fact both good and interesting. Poured a dark, deep brown with full tanned head that hung around. Toffee sweetness in both the aroma and taste of this malty IPA (is that allowed?) that has a good hop presence but is second fiddle to the maltiness that gives the beer it’s colour and most of the flavouring/aromas. I am no regular Black IPA drinker so can not really compare this with a host of other tastings, but I thought this different and well made, no matter what style it is supposed to be (medium to thin Stout like in my opinion).
