3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tasted this in the Strands Inn, Nether Wasdale on 31st August 2014. Cask, handpump dispense. Dull black in colour with a thin pale buff head. Slight notes of roast grain in the short aroma. Thin oily mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malts give a black malt toasted note with hints of mild coffee, roast grain and dark chocolate. Dusty hop prickle with earthy overtones in the short bitter aftertaste. Malt is present in the smooth finish with notes of chicory and liquorice flavours evident in the mouth. This is a decent session mild considering the low ABV and it reminded me of Moorhouse’s Black Cat in many ways.

1.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20
On tap at Pig’s Ear 2012. A thin looking red-brownish colour. Aroma vaguely malty with a hint of sick. Some rather clumsy bitterness in the finish. Making a nice low abv beer is something of an art but this isn’t it. It was actually really bad, so bad I was struggling to finish my half. I even debated chucking it away.
