3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Shaker pint draft at the brewery in Denver, Colorado. The pour is opaque black, with a 1.2 inch tan head. Nice lacing left behind int he glass. The aroma is cherry fruit, general vanilla sweetness, than a nice roast character. The taste is the nose, decent balance between the cherry sweetness (with a mild tartness) and the roast malt. The sweetness gets pretty close to cloying as the beer warms. The palate is medium bodied, soft natural carbonation and the sweet cherry finish. The tartness is a bit more evident in the aftertaste. Decent.

I enjoyed this a bit more than the Kriek. The roast notes add a dimension that cuts some of the sweetness without losing the big pie aroma and spicing. Like having pie and a coffee.

Very dark brown to black color, light brown head. Sweet, roasted taste. Light sour aftertaste. Medium to smooth mouthfeel, medium bitterness. Some roasted aftertaste too. Sweet and light roasted scent. Not really for me this one.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
[draft] Dark, inky brown pour. A thin head even for a stout - more so given wheat blend. Really surprising aroma - burnt pie crust notes, tart cherry, and roasty malt. Tastes of tart cherry and dark chocolate. Nice mouthfeel with some roundness. Best beer I had at the tasting room that day, and worth a visit to try.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Wow - what a pleasant surprise and a wonderful mistake! Haven’t enjoyed a beer this much in a while. Pours black with deep brown highlights. Pie cherry and pie crust nose. Taste follows nose with just hints of baking spice and a good dose of chocolate. Great balance with a nice tartness from the cherry.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sampled at Brewers Rendezvous 7/09/11. Pours a thin beige head, over a slightly hazy, dark brown (SRM 35) body....nose is cherry, coffee, chocolate....taste is chocolate cherry, slight sensation of sweetness, finishing with a sharp sour tartness....mouth feel medium, carbonation medium. This is an interesting combination of aromas and flavors with the heavy roasted malts being balanced back by the cherries. BJCP 7/3/14/4/7
